Assuming you have a heat pump .If thermostat is on emergency heat which is auxiliary heat outside unit should not run .
If it's in heat mode and heat pump cannot keep up then it will call for 2 stage heat and that is when your outside unit and electric heat would run at the same time .
If outside unit have a outside thermostat and it too cold then outside unit should shut off by the outside thermostat

SOURCE: ruud heat pump outside fan

You may be right in looking at the motor. It uses a different speed on heat than cool. The heat cycle uses low speed, usually red. Some manufactures use blue (medium). Cool uses black, high speed. If you are confident, switch the low speed wire with the high speed and see if this changes anything. If the fan motor isn't the problem, check the other setting (cool) if the overload trips, you may need to look into a new capacitor or compressor, if so, you can install a hard start kit. these are start boosters, and are inexpensice, sometimes they will give another year out of the comp. but I've put them on and they have lasted 5 years.

SOURCE: intertherm outside unit - s3ba-036k - does not run

Measure the voltage across the line. The outside unit normally runs on 220 Volts. Measuring each side of the line to ground will give 110 Volts. If your outside disconnect is of a fused type one fuse could be blown. If a fuse is blown on one side of the line you will read zero volts differential across the line.

Check the type of fuse used in the disconnect. Make sure the proper size time delay fuse is installed on both sides of the line at the disconnect.

SOURCE: Blower in Attic not running

inside unit has fan control relay , either on control board or can be separate ,except for the 24 volt transformer and the t-stat the units operate separately concentrate totally on the inside unit this is where the problem lies

SOURCE: heat pump auxiliary heat does not turn on

Turn up your outside thermostat in the outside unit.
You should have about 3 degrees difference in one stage to the next. So I would change the thermosat with one that has three stages of heat.

Goodman heat pump set at 73 when starts the outside unit does not run no fan or nothing .It is 46 here outside today. Should the outside fan unit be running ?? When it starts

In general the answer is yes. But no fan and no compressor points to a problem. Is the house heating using the auxiliary heat then?

What does it mean when the aux is flashing on my thermostat?

I assume that you have a heat pump system. If this is the case, the outside temperature is probably lower than the heat pump is sized for and it is using the auxiliary heating system to keep up. The auxiliary heating system usually is an electric coil in the heat pump unit which supplements the heat being produced by the heat pump. This is normal operations and does not indicate a problem with the heat pump, it is just really cold outside. If it is not colder than usual outside, there may be a problem with the heat pump and you should call a heating contractor to check it out.

Aux keeps coming on on regular heat is there something wrong with heat

See if it happens only when your temperature of the room is more than 3 degrees of your setpoint temperature. Since you have a heat pump, the auxiliary (electric heat strips) is use for backup of the heat pump when it can't keep up. The heat pump will run by itself if it can maintain temperature within a couple degrees. If it is too cold outside to handle the load or you set the temperature more than 2 degrees past room temperature, the auxiliary will turn on. The thermostat has a memory of how long it takes to reach desired temperature. If it goes into auxiliary mode trying to satisfy setpoint during the last call for heat, it will start the next call for heat in both aux & heat pump mode until the thermostats algorithm (timed program) allows only the heat pump to run. Not sure if you have an air to air, or geothermal heat pump. The outside air temperature will affect only the air to air system ie. when the temps drop outside, the heat coming out of your vents will be cooler...the air to air systems drops efficiency when the outdoor air drops.

My outside unit will not come on when heating. will only run auxiliary heat

Jeff most H/P are set up on a 2*f lag in the T-stat. If heat pump fails to come on or cant keep up it will fall back 2*f on the stat and the electric or auxiliary heat will come on so you don't lose all your conditioned air in the house. Ok so why isn't the H/P coming on first you must have a 24v signal to bring the unit on.That seems good because the stat is bringing the aux heat on. A service person should be called/ some possible problems, Low pressure switch lockout. Failed contactor, no line Voltage. I recommend a service call anything past the T- Stat. Hope this helps.

I have my thermostat set to 75 degrees however my house will only get up to 70 degrees. At night when the temp drops outside so does the temp in my house. For example I had my thermostat set for 75 degrees...

How old is your system?

If your system is a heat pump and is failing to keep up overnight during the colder weather. Or if it struggles to keep up at all, a few issues come to mind.

Obviously, the first and most common cause would be due to an undercharge of refrigerant. With an undercharge, your heat pump has lost efficiency and cannot properly remove heat from outside.

Other possible issues that come to mind are failed defrost cycle. If your unit is not defrosting properly and it continues to run non-stop, a freeze-up could occur on the outdoor coil. And the worse it gets, the worse your system will perform.

Another possibility is auxiliary heat or heat strips are not coming on at all. Depending on your thermostat, you would be able to tell if the thermostat is calling for auxiliary heat. If you are not getting any additional heat, then the heat pump may not be adequate for the space intended.

Other smaller factors may come into play such as incorrect defrost cycles. Possibly a mechanical component taking a break or overheating or maybe a mechanical failure such as failed compressor leaving the only heat you have as emergency.

WHY DOES MY RHEEM RBHC-14J11SFD BLOW ONLY COLD AIR? THE AIRCONDITIONER WORKS, HOWEVER THE HEAT DOES NOT TURN ON. THE THERMOSTAT IS SET TO ON AND TO THE HEAT POSITION.

Heat pumps tend to blow a much lower temperature outlet air than a gas fired unit would. Is this your first year with this furnace?  Depending on your outside temps, an auxiliary heat strip may not be operating properly.

Goodman package- no heat below 30 degrees outside

I believe the unit you are describing is a heat pump. Heat pump are great when the temperature isn't below 30 With low ambient temps. outside it is much more efficient and comfortable to run aux. electric heat from the heat pump.

Outside unit clicks while thermostat auxiliary light flashes

Sounds like the compressor starting relay or capacitor is defective. When the compressor could not start, the electric heat came on to satisfy the heat requirement and causing the emergency heat light to come on at the thermostat. This light warns you that electric heaters are energized. And they use a LOT of electricity! Call a different company for service. And do it soon.
