Open up a command prompt as administrator
Type diskpart and press Enter
Type list disk, and you'll get a listing of all drives on your machine.
Type select disk # to select a disk. You can use the Size column to identify which one it is.
Type attributes disk clear readonly - change your USB's properties so that it is no longer read-only.

Method 1. Clear read-only attributes with DiskPart utility:

1. Press Windows key + R combination on your keyboard. In the pop-up Run dialog box, type diskpart and hit Enter or click "OK" to open the DiskPart Command Prompt;
2. Type "list disk".
3. Type "select disk n", where n is the number of write protected SanDisk USB flash drive, microSD, SSD, etc.
4. Type "attributes disk clear readonly".
Close DiskPart Command Prompt and re-plug your USB flash drive to check if the write protection error is resolved.
Method 2. Remove write protection Samsung SD in Registry Editor:

1. Open Run and type regedit and hit Enter to start Registry Editor.
2. Navigate to following path: (In Windows 10, you can paste the path in Address bar directly).
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies
3. Double click the WriteProtect option and set the value from 1 to 0 (1 means positive and 0 stands for negative).

Method 3. Format write-protected Sandisk drive with free partition manager.

SOURCE: SanDisk Usb Flash 8GB unable to format

TRY SOME OF THESE STEPS BEFORE YOU THROW IT

I devised these simple steps that tend to remedy quite a few issues with most USB portable / external hard drives and OTHER devices (though not always)

A few things to check but assumes USB and Windows for other interfaces / operating systems (mac/ Linux) similar steps may be adapted to suit.

1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability

2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer. Not all USB cables are equal even though they should be)

3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.

4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.

5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again. This can be especially true if you move a HUB to another port

If you checked and fixed anything there and still have issues then check your hardware from CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.
Any exclamation marks by hardware need fixing before you investigate any further

USB flash drives can fail for no apparent reason.
Sandisk Cruzers are especially bad for this.

USB hard drives should be treated with extreme care.
This is a real hard drive ! and knocks and bumps can quite literally kill them.

It is possible to remove drives from the enclosures in most cases and connect directly inside a PC to fully check it.

Note that if you hear a drive clicking or pinging this could be the worst thing you would hear.
Known as "The Click Of Death"

If none of the above steps help look at updating the drivers from the manufacturers web site in the support section.

I cnt open my pen drive..it's showing insert disk..it is a cruzer blade 16gb pen drive..and I have a windows XP..

Windows XP should be able to automatically detect and install it. Try using it on another computer that has either Windows XP, Vista , or Windows 7 on it. If it doesn't automatically detect and install it on that one then the flashdrive is dead.

Sandisk Cruzer Professional 4GB usb flash drive issue

If you pull out the flash disk while it's working, you can damage its bootrecord. In this case Windows tells you that flash drive is not formatted because cannot read the from master boot record or FAT (file allocation table)
You can scan your flash drive attempting to repair boot record or use a flashdisk recovery tool if you have importanta data in it.
If not you can format your flash drive.

I just brought a 32gb flash drive and I plugged it into my laptop and went to use and it said the drive needed formatting. which I did and it said it couldn't complete. I have tried other things from other...

My solution would be to return it, alot of generic brands use, well generic flash chips which arent all that good quality. yours sounds as it was DOA to begin with, usually you dont have to format flash disks when you purchase them.

I'd suggest looking for sandisk brand, If you have a local radio shack they have sales all the time on flashdisks/thumbdrives. I recently got my 16GB for 19.99

My usb flashdisk become raw data

1). Do not format this hard drive before you've recovered all your stored data back. In your case, the formatting process may erase everything on your drive and make your data gone permanently.
2). Never save anything new on this drive in case that any new file would rewrite your original data.
3). Plunge this drive to your computer and download a RAW drive data recovery freeware to get back all your lost data back:
http://www.freeware-fix.blogspot.com/2013/02/raw-hard-drive-recovery.html
This hard drive has helped many people around me restore their inaccessible data back from a RAW drive or memory card. It can also work perfectly on your drive.
Read more detailed information of this freeware here:
http://blog4mark.blogspot.com/2012/10/help-external-drive-became-raw.html
4). Save and back up all your restored data on another drive in case of data recovery failure.
5). Format this drive to see whether it is fixable.

May be the USB drive is damged. Try connecting it to another machine. If it works then plug it in to the same port as you have installed it.
