I believe my Little Giant pump, model 2E-38N-WC, overheated and now won't work. It is thermally protected but I don't know how to reset it or if it is possible to do so. Can anyone help?

Manual and other patches it is Ok.
You need to do something on regular basis. I did. I install an advanced Digital Controller on my sewage pump and now I know precisely how it is work and know ahead of time when it is not.

Hello Rob Gallau,

Yes it shows thermal protection... but

I have found the INSTRUCTIONS for your specific
pump...
http://littlegiant.com/media/153704/993949_2e-series_manual.pdf

They only indicate how to clean the impeller... and SPECIFICALLY INSTRUCT the pump must be returned to LITTLE GIANT
for any other repairs.

Sorry

SOURCE: Thermal Protection

tyou should find you rmanual and find the reset button or jumper. You must also try to find out what went wrong first why it went on thermal shutdown. You have to resolve the problem first. It could still be there that's why it wont post. If you know how to changes all your cmos.bios settings then if you can not find the reset jumper or switch you can actually reset your cmos to default factory setting. be careful though because you haver to know all your settings, the dates as well for your software activation. i suggest that you remove first the connection of your hardisk until you get your board running then put it back. do not boot your hard disk with the wrong date in your cmos. it will corropt your softwares specially virus protection

SOURCE: Krups GVX2-12 Electric Burr - Thermal Fuse

Open the grinder by removing both knobs.
The front knob is held in place by friction. Use two flat head screwdrivers to pry it off.
The side knob is held in by tabs you have to push. Pry forward to expose the tab, and use another screwdriver to press the tab, and use the other screwdriver to press the tab on the other side.
Now look at the bottom of the grinder. There are four tabs on the outer shell, use screwdriver s to pry the tabs to separate the bottom of the grinder from the shell, and pull off the shell. Your fuse should be attached to the motor wiring coil.

SOURCE: I want to replace an impeller for a Little Giant submersible pump

This is a plastic impeller on a brass hub. If the impeller is loose it is probally cracked or overheated and melted, ether way you will have to break the impeller off of the hub then you will need to break hub loose from shaft. You can do this by putting pump in a vise and putting a pair of vice grips on hub and giveing them a sharp hit in a counter clockwise direction. you will need to replace the seal and impeller and should check to be sure than you can get these parts before you start.

Hi Tom (and Lindsay?),

Ok lets get a little more info,

  1. Plugged in? (Have to ask)
  2. Does it run and not pump?
  3. Does not run?
  4. Tried moving the float switch?
  5. Pull the pump and see if the intakes are clogged
Please comment back with your findings

SOURCE: Little Giant pump WGP-90-PW trips GFI circuit

You might have 2 problems. The GFIC might be wired wrong or the pump wirng might be compromised with moisture. The noise issue? Are you running this unit without submersing it? They will burn out if you do. To get a more accurate running sound, submerse it with a flexible pipe so you can run it in a 5 gal bucket without losing the water.
It's possible a bearing is burned out.

How to disassemble Little giant pump model#psm006?

thats why i like the little giant pumps they are put together with phillips screws not glued like them other guys , i do suggest that if you dissasemble pump and water has gotten inside , replace it not just seal it up and go , wont last long as that means the pump shaft seal has leaked , ther e has been a few folks that add dietary mineral oil to the inside , for use in very deep ponds (over 3 feet) they believe that helps keep the water out

My Little Giant OPWG-71 after six months of trouble free use has stopped pumping my pond. It comes on, with no obstructions allows water to be pushed through it but won't pump. And yes even when

Hi don-eyre300.
Double check your suction side of the pump for obstructions if not then it is time to replace your pump...sounds like the impeller and housing is worn beyond repair.

Littlle giant pump model 2e-ndvr what oil goes inside this pump

"pump oil" usually is a fire redardant mineral type , ive seen good uses of dietary mineral oil avail at local phamacy , but is sort of pricey if filling a total pump up with it (allways allow for heat expansion)

Little giant pump stays on with no water no debri till thermal turns it off

http://www.plumbersurplus.com/pdf/03303.pdf

According to above documentation, CIA model has a diaphragm that actuates the switch to turn it off and on. If the vents are plugged with trash it won't work. If the diaphragm has failed it could have water in the switch works. Either way you need to take the switch mechanism apart and clean and inspect it. Hopefully it is just gummed up with gunk from what ever you are pumping and a good cleaning will make it work again. You can also check the switch while you have it apart, should "click" when actuated. Be gentle, this stuff is fragile! Be safe. Remove all power before you start!!!

My pump has been running fine since may. Now after a few minutes it pops the breaker. I have tried another out let but it still does the same thing. It pumps out water very well. I checked the impeller and...

Could be a few things but here are a few, By "pops the breaker" are you refering to the breaker at the main panel in the house or the GFCI? Here is what a GFCI is asbestos_56_3.jpg If this is the thing that is poping then the problem is a ground fault. Eg. water is getting inside somewhere, or there is a nick in the cord. The GFCI should be on all outdoor outlets, this protects YOU from getting shocked, whereas the main breaker is to protect the wiring and the house from overloads. --Either way it is a dangerous situation--. I believe Little Giant has a good warranty policy. There are not really any repairable parts in these units. Don't get electrocuted, Contact the manufacturer. The fact that you say the oil is caramel colored (assuming you mean not clear but opaque) sounds like it has water in it.

2E 38N two year old pump runs for twenty minutes or so now and shuts off or shorts out. I reset gfi and can get another twenty minutes shortly thereafter. Noticed the green rubber/plastic housing has worn...

I would, if its kicking out the gfi that means the integrity of the electrical components of the pump are compromised.Either a cord leak or seal leak, buy a new one, cheaper than fixing it
