Find the fuse that supplies power to the lighter socket and remove it (It may already be blown). Once that is done you can safely remove it with a thin screwdriver or tweezers.

Pull the fuses to the lighters and then you can retrieve it safely.
Be sure to check the fuse in case it already blew. You wouldn't want to put the bad fuse in and then think you had a faulty lighter!

A penny fell in my cigarette lighter now,I don't have any power to my head lights or brake light

1st of all make sure the penny is out of the lighter. Then check your fuses under the dash the fuse cover and or you owners manual should tell you which fuses are for headlight & tail light. Depending on how new your car is, you may even have some main fuses under the hood in the engine compartment that may have gotten blown.

Penny dropped into the cigarette lighter of my 2008 saturn astra. I got the penny out, but the cigarette lighter doesn't work

hi,

there must have been a weak connection somewhere in the line.
use a volt meter to trace from the lighter to the fuse box.
I have also seen the wire connection go bad during a short in the back of the fuse box itself where the wire goes in.
follow the 12 volts and you will find your problem.

1995 cadillac sedan deville with penny in cigarette lighter now car won't start

You may want to remove the penny from the cigarette lighter...

However it sounds as though you should take another minute or two and check all your fuses and replace the ones affected if any.
