Clock had large blue display with great contrast for read out. Unplugged clock to move to new location, now display is very dim, black screen. Blue returns for a few seconds when you hit the alarm button.
Sounds like you have a dry socket on your board either at the display end on on the main board. You may just need to solder the offending circuit or replace a capacitor or two after the power supply.
if unsure what to do, take it to a radio repair shop or send it away to be repaired to an online repair shop.
On this photo, you will see a reostat controller in white, usually, when assembled, it has a black knob over it on the inside of the cover casing. On this particular unit, it had a dry socket on the under side of the board and the reostat required cleaning with IPA and WD40. There were no new parts required.
The item was full cleaned, tested, repaired (Soldered) cleaned, polished and serviced, reassembled and tested again. It now functions correctly, the dimmer works and no more flashing between light and bright.
It took me approximately 1 and a half hours without any schematics to trace the problem and remedy the issue, including disassembly and reassembled.
You can do it if you take your time and stay clear of the main voltage side of the live power. Be careful.
