You can try this....

  1. Turn off Canon S300, S400, S9000 Printers
  2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
  3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
  4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
  5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
  6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
  7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more.
  8. Your Canon S300, S400, S9000 Printers should respond as normal.
But this happens because the waste tank is full. You need to locate it and use a paper towel to absorb the waste ink. Whenever the printer cleans itself ( when a new cartridge is installed, for example) some ink is cycled into this chamber. So if you reset and it is full, overflow may occur.....

tip

"The waste ink absorber is almost full" message?

This applies to the CANON PIXMA MP130 and other ink-jets made by Canon/Pixma.

According to the user's manual, "Ink used to clean the print head is absorbed by the waste ink tank. When this message is displayed, the waste ink tank needs to be replaced, or the machine requires maintenance". There is no information about how to replace or empty the waste ink tank.

In any case, you can try the following to clear up the error, but eventually you'll need the waste tank to be emptied or replaced. And as far as I know, you can't find the replacement parts to buy, nor the instructions to empty the waste tank.

Turn on your MP130.
1) After that press: Menu - Scan - Copy - Scan or Menu-Copy-Scan-Copy-Copy in some models, it depends on the date it was produced)
2) Select TEST MODE.
3) Enter NVRAM ACCESS
4) Select SET ABS-M LEVEL TO 0
5) Select OK
6) Keep selecting OK untill you leave the TEST MODE

Then turn it OFF and again ON. Check if the error message is still there.
The following is taken from the Canon website, regarding this specific error:

"Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk."

As I mentioned before, I have not found any way or procedure to empty or replace the waste ink absorber nor the necesary replacement part.

Waste ink near full. How do I empty this?

the waste ink is the pads in the printer where the printer cleans the carts (ink). When they fill up they need to be replaced i would suggest taking this printer to a printer shop for replacement. The reason is because the printer has a waste counter on it and it needs to be reset before the error will go away. I would call around your area and see if they can do it and how much. If you reset the counter and continue printing the ink will adventually over flow and can cause serious damage to the printer. I would also call up canon and see what they recommend.
Steven.
hope this helps :)

Empty the waste ink

Take the printer to a qualified technician.
He/she can "empty" or "replace" the waste ink collector
*AND* "reset" the printer's internal software, to say that it has been serviced.

Waste ink absorber is full How do i empty it

You can't empty that one, you need a shop to replace the pads which are under the printer, and they can reset the waste ink counter at the same time.

Need to empty the waste ink reservoir on a Canon i350.

The waste ink on a Canon is a set of pads covering the whole bottom of the printer case. They only cost around $10.00 but you need a shop to replace them and reset the waste ink counter.

My Canon I550 quit printing.

An error has occurred in the printer. The number of flashes indicates the type of error, as outlined below. Check the cause and take the appropriate action.
bullet.gif Two flashes: Out of paper or paper feed error
Replace the paper correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.
bullet.gif Three flashes: Paper jam
If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam, replace the paper in the printer correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.
See Paper Jams
bullet.gif Four flashes: Empty ink tank
If you press the RESUME/CANCEL button, it will continue printing with an empty ink tank. However, when printing is finished, replace the ink tank immediately. If you continue printing with an empty ink tank, it will be a cause of trouble.
See Replacing an Ink Tank
bullet.gif Six flashes: No print head installed
Install a print head.
bullet.gif Seven flashes: Defective print head
Contact a Canon service representative.
bullet.gif Eight flashes: Waste ink tank almost full
The printer has a built-in waste ink tank for the ink used during print head cleaning. Eight flashes indicates that the waste ink tank is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink tank becomes completely full, contact a Canon service representative.
i_note_us.gif Note
Canon recommends to call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once the waste ink tank becomes completely full, printing will no longer be possible.
