why this is happening is because your hard drive may have a corrupted file inside that game but your not screwed i have a solution :) while it is a crappy process you have to call the support center 1-800-4myxbox and tell them exactly whats happening they should tell you to go to the dashboard then system hard drive and you type a button code much liek a cheat which will let them observe your consoles memory code as you play so when you turn it on and it freezes they see what code is making freeze and delete it. i had to do this but when it froze again my console got the three red lights lets hope this doesnt happen to you. i have some things to try at hom though try unplugging your ethernet cable and all other cords then re-plugging them back in. if that doesnt work try re-setting your network connection, unplug modem and router for 3 minutes then re-plug in and let sit for another 3 minutes if this doesnt work call xbox support.

I had the same problem, if you have wireless in your house then buy a wireless connector from a local GAME, if you have a wireless router and an ethernet cable all you have to do is plug one end into the xbox and the other into one of the LAN ports on your router, when this happens you should be able to connect to Xbox Live, this means theres always a wire running but it wouldnt cost much to pin it against walls or under floorboards or whatever, hope this helps!
