How do i get the needle to stop moving when winding the bobbin?

Most machines will have a smaller wheel inside the handwheel that you turn towards the front of the machine, while holding the larger outer handwheel. If the needle still moves after doing this you'll need to work oil through the handwheel bushing.

Why is hand wheel stuck?

If it is a mechanical sewing machine (pre-1990), it most likely needs cleaning and oiling. (Old oil has turned to goo and is sticking things.) Consult your manual. Use good quality sewing machine oil (NOT 3-in-1, WD-40, cooking oil, or your grandmother's sewing machine oil). Apply only 1-2 drops each spot as instructed. Concentrate on the area around the handwheel since that's where your problem is, but the entire machine should be oiled. You can direct hot air from a handheld hairdryer into the interior mechanics to help loosen things. Let cool and test. Wiggle the handwheel and see if things have changed. Repeat oil/heat until your machine is working again. In the future, be sure to clean and oil every 8-10 hours of constant sewing or at least every six months if not in use.

Or take it for service to a good sewing machine repair service.

Motor stopped; locked handwheel

Remove the needles. See if the handwheel moves now. Since it's a new machine, consult with the seller.

Single 8280 sewing machine handwheel not turning

okay, i have never used a sewing machine except for once, but i do know quite a bit about them because my grandmother knows a lot to. so, here we go. take the spool of thread off of the machine now, locate the thing (i'm not sure what its called) that the spool rests on. now, push it in and turn it at the same time. test it out. keep doing that until it works. it might take as much as an hour, but at the same time it could just take a few simple seconds. good luck.

Handwheel on Sewing machine no longer moves needle.

Actually you should have a "set screw" in the hand wheel. The set screw is usally locked down tight to keep the hand wheel from spinning freely. I f you can run the machine slowly and hold the hand wheel in one place but the machine continues running, then you do need to replace the "set screw". If you replace it you will find that you can offset some of the machines vibration by where you lock the wheel down. Trial and error is the only way to achive this adjustment, kind of like balancing the tires on your car.
