When last was it properly serviced. A good service might just have it running good again. If the engine has done a lot of running/work it might need a overhaul as it will lose power over time due to normal wear and tear causing it to die when a load is applied. (Lack the power to overcome the initial inertia required the get everything moving.)
sounds like you have carb troubles, not getting enough fuel, take carb off and clean it good make sure all holes and ports are clear! also I would put new plug or plugs in it,I can tell you how to see if its the carb plugged up when you have it running and you are about to engage the blades pull the chock out sumwhat to make the engine run rich then engage blades if it dosent stall and runs good then you are experiencing a dirty carb! good luck!!
You should be able to push it forwards as well as backwards. I had a similar problem (engine stalling) with mine. I found out if I half choke it, it will stay running. Transmission may still have a problem.
Could be any of several problems. Since you indicate you just bought it, I'd suggest you return it. Troy-Bilt is pretty good at making customers happy and should repair or replace it right away.
if it is already running and you "engage" the choke, you will flood the engine with too much gas and it will sputter and die. the only time you engage the choke is to start the engine when it is cold. if the mower dies when you remove jumper cables, and you leave the choke alone, you need to have someone look at your charging system.
That looks like you have a bad carburetor . First thing you should try is take the carb out , open it and try to clen it . If this does not help the only solution is replace for a new one . Hope this help.
