I believe this model is a sewing machine not embroidery. Elna 6005 Heirloom Edition. "Expressive" Line is Embroidery/Sewing. Expressive 860 through 960.

SOURCE: Husqvarna Des 1.. won't recognize hoops

The embroidery unit needs to be calibrated. Can only been done by a trained dealer. you can relax, it is not a major issue and shuold not cost you a arm and a leg. Ask the dealer to also calibrate your touch screen and download the working hours on your machine.

SOURCE: Embroidery Arm

If your machine is several years old and has not yet been upgraded for the 150x150mm hoop, you might want to think about getting it done now and the part will be replaced.

well P it sounds like your hoop might be bent or at least the pins that go into the arm see if you can bend them out a bit also does this happien with all sizes of hoops?
Also for the Guest make sure that your needle isn't bent better yet just change the needle also take your bobbin out and flip it the other way and see if it still comes through hope this helps you guys

SOURCE: Husqvarna Viking Designer I breaking needles

Dls8864's suggestion was a very good suggestion - make sure the metal stitch plate is pushed all the way to the back. Also make sure that the thread is feeding freely - if it is catching on something it can cause the needle to be pulled aside and make it break. Does the design fit properly inside the hoop you are using? If the foot and/or needle strike against the side of the hoop, that will cause a breakage. Is the bobbin thread okay - not making a bird's nest underneath?

SOURCE: I have a Do All Quilter's Hoop which I can't use

I'm a bit amazed that a Husqvarna technician was unable to do the minor adjustment to the embroidery arm - he needs to contact Husqvarna headquarters and ask for instructions. Meantime, you can still use your hoop (which by the way is my favourite hoop - it's a little beauty!). Tell your machine you are going to use the Large Hoop (6" x 9.5" or 150mm x 240mm) even though you are really using the 6" x 6" or 150mm x 150mm Do It All Hoop. Provided you have centred your design before loading it on your USb stick or floppy drive, it should work. However, just to reassure yourself, use the Check Size button on your touch screen to test the outside size of the embroidery and be sure it is not going to foul on the hoop borders. (It is the one on the second screen (press More to access this) once your have loaded your design - looks like little double arrows pointing to the corners of a square. Each time you press this button, the needle will zoom to each outer corner of your design in turn.

Testimonial: "Thanks so much for your feedback on the Quilter's Hoop problem. I did as you suggested putting the Large Hoop 240x150 in the preferences and darn if it didn't work. I have since learned that my technician wants $50.00 for a part he says Husqvarna says my machine needs because it was built before the Quilter's Hoop came on the market. What do you think of that? Thanks again for the solution."

How do I oil my sewing machine?

Consult your owner's manual in the maintenance section. Your machine is computerized and as such probably requires little oiling, possibly none. Do NOT oil unless you follow the manufacturer's instructions and use only oil that the manufacturer recommends.

You can order an owner's manual here, or contact your Elna dealer/web site:

What does feed dog lever do on my Elna 6005 Heirloom sewing machine? Do I need to alter it for sewing very thick fabrics/seams?

Feed dog lever should lower the feed dogs, these are the teeth that grip and move the fabric foward and backwards as the needle goes up and down, they are under the needle plate.

Only time you would lower the feed dogs is if you want to do free motion embroidery or darning perhaps.

So no, don't touch for normal seam stitching. If you are sewing very heavy fabric you may want to lessen the pressure on the presser foot a little (if your machine has this adjustment it will be a knob on top of the head above the pressure foot area).

You may find that your machine doesn't really like very thick fabrics. Sewing something like upholstery weight with a domestic machine is pretty ambitious; an industrial strength machine is best bet.

Does anyone know of a cam to use in an Elna Carina that makes a stitch very similar to french entredeux? What is the cam number?

I am certain that we demonstrated this stitch with voile or hankerchief linen and using a wing needle and fine silk thread or rayon machine embroidery thread with the turkish hemstitch cam, cam number 140.

For the non heirloom sewers out there entredeaux looks like this.

Here is disc 140in the Elna discs sampler flyer

I am a member of the yahoo newsgroup called "Elna Heirlooms" and the following image was contributed by a member. I believe that members also list any Elna items they may wish to sell.

Or you could contact White sewing centre to order this cam if you don't already have it.

If you find these images are just too small, feel free to email me on [email protected] and I'll send you the jpgs.

Instruction book

Nice vintage machine, you can buy a copy of the instruction manual here

http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/instruction-manual-elna-62-64-72-74.aspx

or try ebay, some vendors sell manual copies on CD.

You may like to join the Yahoo group called Elna Heirlooms too, lots of owners of these Swiss made machines there who share knowledge there.
