When a camshaft wears it is usually one or more cam lobes that are affected and as it is the peak of the lobe that does most of the work of opening the valves that is typically where most of the wear takes place so instead of a smooth curve that glides silently across the cam follower or tappet a worn cam lobe tends to develop a rather square-ish profile and the sharper edge "hits" the cam follower resulting in a ticking noise.

This sort of wear has a distinctive noise characteristic in that as the engine speed is raised from idle the noise becomes more defined and louder because the squarer edge is hitting the cam follower harder.
When other parts of the valve gear are worn the noises at idle speed tend to fade as the speed is increased.

The cause of this sort of wear is usually lubrication-related. On older engines that are dirty inside it is often a small oilway that becomes blocked. It is important to discover the cause before spending lots of money on a new camshaft and related parts in case it is wasted by the same fault recurring.
Other causes are insufficient oil changes, poor quality engine oil, low oil pressure, lots of cold starts and driving away too soon after starting.

It is worth noting the swarf from the worn cam lobe(s), the finely powdered metal, will have been washed down into the oil pan or sump where there is a good chance they have been picked up and travelled around the oil pump before being trapped in the oil filter resulting in an oil pump slightly (or a lot) more worn and less efficient than it should be.
While in many cases this would not be a great problem, for engines that travel only lots of short distances the resulting oil drain-back and an extra second or two to reach maximum oil pressure after starting can have a negative affect on the life of an engine and a new camshaft.

The noise is most likely from worn hydraulic lifters rather than cam shaft
the key is your statement that the noise is worse when starting up
Cam shaft noise will be constant with rpms but lifter noise will decrease as the oil pressure builds up
At the klms you state , it is time for a hydraulic lifters set to be removed and have a leak down test done as they will be showing signs of wear
Find an accredited service shop that specializes in your make of car , have the noise properly diagnosed and get a quote for repairs

Just drove 100 miles a in my a4 now I got a ticking noise coming from my engin and now my pressure light is now on what's the problems

Check your oil level immediately! You are probably very close to ruining the engine because the oil level is too low. (The ticking noise is probably the valve lifters running with insufficient oil.) Then, find out where the oil is going. You may have a bad crank seal, a leaky gasket, or worn rings or seals (a worn engine will blow blue smoke out of the tailpipe, especially when it is cold).

If you have enough oil, your oil pump is not working. In that case, do not even try to start the engine until you get that repaired.

Ticking sound upon acceleration. worse when cold

When you start the car with cold engine the oil light indicator is on even after the engine started?
If the sound comes from the engine itself you could check the oil level with cold engine before start.
If oil level is ok ( between low and maximum marks on the dipstick ) then could be 3 posible causes:
1. Bad oil
2. Faulty oil pump
3. Worn camshaft bearing, worn crankshaft bearing, or faulty piston bolt.
It may help if you bring on some more details like since when is making that noise, in what circumstances appeared and so on.

Honda passport problem

The louder noise and burnt smell possibly was the bearing getting worse, or going out, causing the belt to slip over the pullet and start heating up.
Was it a burnt rubber smell?

I don't see how this could have anything to do with the flywheel though.

Toyota paseo engine ticking

Lifter may be worn or cam lobe is worn and is probably due a timing belt replacement as well.Sounds like just a high mileage problem lots of people complain of valve train noise from these engines its not uncommon. I would use a high mileage engine oil to help with the noise but i am afraid the noise is only going to get worse over time you may look into salvage engine with a warranty or having the engine rebuilt it sounds like it is already burning oil. The valve lash can be adjusted on this engine but if your not a mechanic i do not recommend this, it is very sensitive procedure and can damage the engine permanently. Take it to a shop have them check your valve lash and adjust it for the noise issue to save yourself some time and money on a very costly repair with improperly adjusted valve lash. Remember to rate my solution Thanks in advance.

Loud ticking noise coming from motor

This is probably tappet noise from the top end of the engine. However you should have it looked at quickly as these engines had a severe problem with oil sludging, even when recommended services were done.
This caused all sorts of problems, so see if you can get it fixed before the engine develops something terminal.

I have a tapping in the engine what can be causing it

It's pretty tough for one of us to diagnose from afar without actually hearing it, but here are your possibilities: Lifter noise - low oil, worn - noise comes from upper engine Bearings (main & rod) - again low oil, worn - normally loud from lower engine
Exhaust leak - exhaust manifold and/or gasket - tick from side of engine, gets worse with engine RPMs
I'd have a competent shop look at it for you to get exact fault.

What would cause a Ticking noise in a jeep grand cherokee

Most time a ticking noise is caused by a valve lifter malfunction or a worn pivot on a rocker arm. if the noise appears to be coming from the valve cover (inside) that's usually where the problem is. Depending upon which engine you have the repair procedure will vary. (consult a haynes or chilton manual)
Before taking anything apart though many times a lifter noise will respond to a good engine additive like marvel oil or lucas engine conditioner. Neither one will harm the engine and it may quiet it down for you!

Loud ticking noise

Ticking is generally associated with a valvetrain problem but may be caused by low oil level or pressure. Noise is in the upper half of the engine. Knocking is from low oil pressure and is caused by worn bearings causing pressure loss. Knocking is the worse of both conditions (means overhaul or engine replacement.) Ticking needs to be checked for it's cause...if cause is low oil pressure, remember...oil pumps don't cause low oil pressure, pressure will lost if bearings are worn or pump inlet screen is plugged with carbon.

3.1L engine ticking noise

If you noticed any wear grooves on the rocker pivots, it could be that the rockers are worn. changer any that show obvious wear. Some movement of a rocker when not under tension is normal but should not be excessive. You can also check to see if any rockers have less travel than others by slowly turning engine by hand and measuring the travel on each (intakes may vary from exhaust, but should not vary from other similar ones) If any move far less than others it can be due to a collapsed or worn lifter, or worn cam lobe. Piston slap is a different issue and usually can be identified only by a good tech with lots of experience.

3.1L engine ticking noise

This a piston slap. GM recognised this problem years ago but instead of repairing 100,000 motors they call it "normal". If it goes away after warm up you should be ok to keep driving it.
