Started the car two days ago and the engine coolant temp. gauge did not respond. Engine ran well and car drove fine. Outside temp. was low 30s.

Turned heat/fan on and only cool air came out. What may be my problem?

Ok so my 2001 kia rio ran fine on my trip from nor cal to phoenix, az and ran fine for 3 weeks after. I noticed the oil level was very low when I checked it a few days ago and it started to overheat. I put...

Your engine does not overheat because the oil is low. Do you get heat out of the vents? Check the fluid level in the radiator not the reservoir. Due this with the engine cold. If the radiator is low than you have a leak somewhere. Add coolant to the radiator and see if you can see any abvious leaks. You may need to have the cooling system pressure checked in order to find the leak. If the coolant level is full in the radiator than you may have a bad thermostat. If you get heat out the vents than we can assume the coolant level is full and the water pump is working. When the temp gauge is hot feel the upper and lower hoses. If one is hot and one is cold than the t-stat may be the problem. If there is no heat out the vents and the coolant level is full than you may have a bad water pump. 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee temp gauge high when heat is on

If your "check engine" light is turn on, I suggest scanned the PCM to know exactly what fault code is stored there. Additionally, could be some problem with the "temp sending unit".

Keep us updated.

My car overheated yesterday. I pulled over and let it cool down. I opened the hood of my car and there was lot's of steam. It cooled down and I drove it home. I just started it to see what's wrong. I...

thats due to low or no coolant, you shouldnt drive this overheating engine damage will occur, the first thing is to fill the radiator up, and look around for any leaks, if no leaks are seen, then start engine and allow it to warm up, leave cap off at first to top off coolant, after a few minutes install cap and let it run, keep an eye on the temp gauge and also watch for leaks. this problem is due to a coolant leak, maybe a hose is bad or it was low on coolant or you have a bad thermostat, good day.

Sounds like you could be low on coolant, even more so because the air starts to cool down, check coolant level with engine cold, never open a radiator when hot.

You have two pumps,I guess you know that ,if you already did one. Did you check fuel pressure at the rail and check out the electronic pressure regulator? What codes are coming up and do they stay set?

Engine temp gage spikes to 260 degree when

are you sure the cooling fans are working?
Is the coolant temp gauge telling the truth?
have you lifted the hood and heard the coolant bubbling into the overflow?
Or heard the tinging sound of a red hot engine?
If he did a liquid test with the dye,and it changed colors it should have changed very fast,
Another thing to think about if he was to take the fan belt off,and pull the thermostat housing off,and removed the thermostat,Now pour coolant into the thermostat hole to almost the top,Now start the car and see which side the bubbles come from, left or right, that will be the gasket that is leaking not both.

My son has a 1995 camaro 3.4 L engine. Recently there's been a cooling problem. Sometimes when he goes out it runs fine with the temp around 180/190. I put in a 180 thermostat.Sometimes the temp goes up...

The 3.4 L engine is problematic. My Camaro started overheating intermittently and my mechanic said he was afraid the head gasket was going. Hoping that it was anything else, I replaced everything in the cooling system from the radiator back. It kept overheating, but not consistently. Some days it ran fine and other days it ran into the red zone before the engine was even warm. And despite not leaking, it was down about a quart of water every time I drove it. Finally, it started running rough and eventually it was undrivable. It was in fact the head gasket -- a common problem with that engine. You can't replace the engine; Chevy doesn't support it any more, there is no crate engine that fits and the cost of replacing the head gasket is close to or exceeds the value of the car, since most mechanics want to drop the engine and tranny out the bottom to get at it. I got lucky and found someone who did the work without droppng the block and had the heads remilled. It still cost over a grand, but I love my car so much that I would have replaced it anyway. I've been driving it for close to two years since then. At 188K, I know it's not going to last forever, but the last gen Camaro is the last beautiful American car and driving it gives me so much pleasure that it's worth it. Good luck.
