Power seat

Most Fordicon1.png products are designed so the seat belt latch by the center console moves with the seat. The bottom of the latch rides on the seat rail, and with time sometimes it builds up a little play on the rail. As the seat moves forward or back, the seat belt guide often tilts forward or back, just a bit, on the rail, and gets stuck. So you can move forward or back just a bit, but then it jams and you can hear the motor, but can go no further.

The long term fix is to remove the seat, disassemble the seat belt guide and rail, and usually replace some parts.

But the short term solution is often to simply hold on to the seat belt latch and rock it forward and away from the seat as you try to go forward or back. Or, sometimes it works besticon1.png to rock it backwards and away from the seat as you try to move forward or back. It all depends on which way it is binding.

There's no guarantee that it won't jam again if you move it all the way back or forward, but once you find the right position to hold the seat latch in while moving the seat, you should be able to re-adjust it where you need it to be.

Driver's side power seat won't move back but will move forward, up and down

I have a 1993 Mercury Topaz that I just bought, and the drivers side seat will not move forward, it will go in all other directions, but won't move forward...any suggestions?

There are 3 electric motors on the seat. One is forward and back, one is front up and down, and one is rear up and down. The switch changes the polarity back and forth to achieve the proper movement. I think the wire color for the forward and back motor is yellow with a white tracer and red with a white tracer. so if the switch gives the motor positive voltage to the yellow with a white tracer and grounds the red with a white tracer the seat moves forward. If the switch gives the red with a white tracer positive and the yellow with a white tracer ground the seat moves back. (or the other way around). So we can safely say it is in the switch.
Good luck and God Bless

My front seat will not move forward. It will recline, move up and down but it will not move forward. I've tried reseting the seat positions but nothing seems to work. my seat wont move forward is there a...

You can move the drivers seat back by turning on the power, getting in the seat and position your feet firmly on the fron flor with your back firmly against he seatback, and then engage the switch pushing back - while pushing like hell with your feet. You can actually hear the seat drive shaft turning while the seat moves back. The principle should be the same for moving forward, but pressure would have to be aplide to the back of the seat.
