You have a bad motor switch

SOURCE: Kenmore heavy duty 80 series

The buzzer is wired through a switch on your dryer motor. The switch is NOT a normal switch... it's a centrifugal switch meaning that it is mounted on the motor shaft and rotates along with it. When it "spins up" centrifugal force flings it outward to make contact with the terminals on the outer edge of the inner motor housing (This tells the timer that the motor is functioning properly and it can now begin to heat the clothes. This is also the switch that keeps you from having to hold in the "Start" button 'til the clothes are dry) When the timer kills power to the motor, the buzzer sounds off because of this switch. As the motor slows, springs retract the switch from the contacts and shut off the buzzer. Make sense so far? Sounds like your centrifugal switch is getting stuck. Unplug the dryer and gain access to the motor. Then use Contact Cleaner in a spray can to spray and clean every inch (inside and out) of the motor. This should get you going again.

Sounds like the push to start switch has gone bad. Not to expensive to fix, and pretty easy to do as well. You can remove the rear of the console, remove the push to start switch (lift the tab, then turn to unlock) and replace. Be sure to mark your wires so they go back in the right order. Jim

  • the buzzer is located under the control panel.
  • you can unplug it.
  • unplug the dryer or turn the breaker off first
  • then take out the 2 screws on both sides of the control panel
  • bull it forward toward you and unhook it from the case
  • you should see the buzzer with two wires going to it
  • only need to disconnect one.
  •  just make sure you wrap the bare wire connector with electrical tape to keep it from touching metal.

Gibson dryer wont stop buzzing when done

The end of cycle buzzer is more than likely sticking. Contact your locale parts distributor or go to www.repairclinic.com. Be sure to have your model number off the dryer handy.

We have a 80 series elec. dryer, today when the end of cycle buzzer sounded, when door was closed again...buzzer continues to buzz. I can't find a part number, if the end of cycle buzzer needs replacing. ...

Push the timer to a definate off position. Close the door. If it buzzes then more than likely you are getting power from the timer which could mean short in the timer. If you have the model # the parts places can easily find your parts.

80 series Kenmore just over 1 year old. Buzzer contiues to buzz, have to open door to stop instead of normal 5 second operation. Timer continues to run even after passing off.

Hi, Unfortunately this sound's like a faulty timer. Most of those 80 series Kenmore's have the buzzer/end cycle signal built onto the timer, that added to the issue of the timer continuing to advance past the "off" position indicator, I'd suspect a timer. You should check with Searspartsdirect or partsdepot etc. as well as any other local and on-line part's supplier on available new or rebuilt timer's. Often rebuilt timer's are just as good for half the price of a new one. Hope that help's. If so please give a rating on the info I provided to you here at fixya. Thank's for using fixya and come back if you need further assistance. Good luck macmarkus:)
