Donna, I would use a mild abrasive on those spots like Bar Keepers Friend. Use it for those spots and then wipe out the shell good before putting in the self cleaning cycle. Self cleaning doesn't mean it will leave it spotless and all the debris will disappear. I was told this by the technician when I asked about it also. Follow your instruction manual to the " T " and you will be surprised.

Testimonial: "Thanks Bill i will take your advise next time."

You can use Easy Off 'Fume Free' oven cleaner on a self-cleaning oven, if you want to manually clean it, but do not use it with the self-cleaning cycle.

Big white spot in the oven, who disappears when wet

Ah, well that's you problem, Number 1 Tip, never EVER use the Self Cleaning Cycle. So many questions here on Fixya are because the self cleaning cycles has caused broken door catches, and even fried control boards. The whole idea of this gimmick is to sell spares and keep service agents in business when they break . The temperature of approximately 932 °F (500 °C) is just too hostile.

Save time and money on Cooker Cleaning

After cleaning your oven - do you want to ever do that again ?

Well, to cut oven cleaning down to a few minutes, just mix Sodium Bicarbonate (Bicarb) with a little water to make a thick paste, then spread it evenly on the base of the oven just using rubber gloves - it doesn't need to be too precise.
Put the oven on warm for a few minutes just to dry it out.

That's it !

Leaving it on the base of the oven prevents any dribbles or spills from sticking, and it doesn't leave any odours or harsh chemicals in there.

Next time you clean the oven - just use warm water and you will be amazed how it just lifts off - leaving your oven clean with no other chemicals needed.
Add another batch when you're done and it will continue to lift any areas you thought were impossible to get off.

I lifted up the heating element on the bottom on the oven to clean up a spill, I heard a pop and the power to the oven went out.

you shorted out the leads on the oven case when you lifted the element, even though the element is off there is power to one side of the incoming element

Self cleaning oven help

There is nothing wrong with cleaning a self-cleaning oven. Now, I don't have experience with your speicific oven, but I do have experience with other self-cleaning ovens. The self-clean function simply heats the oven up really hot. The actual temperature varies but the oven will get hotter than the hottest temperature setting. What happens is that when it get that hot it actually burns up spilled food and crumbs. sometimes in mine I even see small flames. The oven usually requires you to lock it as well since the temperature will be so high. Eventually you have to clean out the burnt "ashes" which are basically the stuff you get on food if you burn it. So the answer to what happens if you clean the oven is that you get a clean oven, nothing else. It won't hurt the oven at all. As a matter of fact even if you use the self-cleaning feature you will eventually have to clean out the "burnt crumbs" and such by hand anyway. So self-cleaning oven are designed to be cleaned by hand as well. And you won't hurt it by doing so even if you did it every day.

How do I use the steam clean self-cleaning oven?

The SteamClean option spot cleans the oven in 20 minutes and is recommended for cleaning light spills on the bottom of the oven cavity. When used routinely, the SteamClean option reduces the need for frequent self-clean cycle use. To use the SteamClean option, pour 12 ounces (1 1/2 cup) of water into the bottom of the oven cavity, close the oven door and push the SteamClean button. At the end of the cycle, consumers wipe out the bottom of the oven, easily removing oven soils. The steam cleaning option is eco-friendly and does not require frequent use of the self-clean cycle, which can create a strong odor. Read this in a post about the new whirlpool ranges

Smoking Kenmore

Hello oliver909
Welcome,

You said,Smoke is coming out of the back of my gas Kenmore oven. Oven is clean - no spills/debris. Ran clean cycle and broiler did not smoke. Warmer drawer at bottom, so nothing spilled there. Soon as you turn it on, downstairs is full of smoke. Sometimes after preheat goes off, smoke clears and its fine. But I'm afraid to use it because last time I saw a flame inside.

If your afraid to use it, do not hesitate to call service. Nobody wants a fire!
