Pls check that model number........the problem description does not match that of a 1999 crt proj tv.........I believe yours is a newer lcd projection around 4 or 5 yr old?? Lamp light flashing on any brand is indicative of the lamp not lighting . The lamp is the most likely cause, but the ballast board can cause this as well..................you should see an access door refer to owner book of the correct model and you can replace yourself...........it may cost around $200 and avaiolable at encompass parts .com Hitach distributor
The flashing red light means that the tv is in protection mode. The tv will not turn on when the red LED is flashing. The most common problem for Hitachi are the convergence output ic's. But they useually do not cause the LED to flash. This tv does also have a problem with Q777 going bad. This will cause the LED to flash. If Q777 is bad the horizontal circuit needs to be modified. This must be done by a tech.
I purchased mine from Circuit city back in spring of 2002 as a display model that they were no longer selling. So I would assume 2001 which would be almost 8 years old. Excellent tv!
