How to do electric two way switch wireing - 25554183-ntsnzel2saiuiwmt1tdol4on-2-0.png
Be aware you need 2 W switches The K switches are different.
For you the two wires running between the switches, go on the same points. on the W1 the power comes in on W2 the power goes to the lamp. From the lamp, the return goes to the mains. So the return is not in the picture.
You can't extend an existing switch with a second one. You need two new complete different switches.

Replacing wiring on old electric fire - 1955

Any store like Home Depot has standard electrical wire. If it was made in the 50s the cores will be covered in rubber which will be well and truly perished by now. The switch should be okay, but generic on/off switches can also be purchased there.

Electric heaters are sized by wattage. See "Sizing Your Heater, below" to determine the right one for your space. For a heater up to 2,880 watts, run a cable with two 14-gauge wires and one ground wire (called 14-2 with ground); run 12-2 cable with ground to handle up to 3,840 watts.

Instructions to install electric switches

At a home improvement store I purchased a book on electrical wiring. It had diagrams and the info you need. Don't try and do wiring unless you can read and follow directions from a manual, or get hands on help from someone that is experienced in electrical circuits. Conversational directions are not sufficient, unless you are a very capable do it yourselfer.

How to wire a doughboy pool pump to a toggle switch

Wire that is between your power source and the pump, needs to be broken/spliced in, with a switch.

If this is a 240 wired motor/pump then Both "hot" wires need to be broken by the switch. If 120, then it is possible to just break the one hot wire. That will be the (Normally) black wire. But be very careful in this as Electricity is "Color Blind"! It does not care what the wire color is. Checking with a meter is always wise & when working with electricity wires, ensure power breaker shut off switches are in the "Off" position.

I posted the two different types of switches you can get at a hardware store.

Electric switch install

Open following link for single-pole and 3-way installations:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-GE-15312-timer.html

If you have two hot wires inside the same box, that is unusual unless the power source is 240volt.
However it is possible that box has two hot wires and each controls a different light.

Wiring an antique hanging lamp

If I understand your assessment then yes. One wire (black/hot) is interrupted by the switch, and the other (white/neutral) normally passes the switch un-cut. FYI - any chance you get to ground a device should be seized; as this will help reduce shock risks associated with direct faults (wires touching stuff they shouldn't).

Replacing a switch outlet combination with a switch GFCI outlet combination and there is only one cable in the box (14/3)

If it worked before, it should be a wire to wire replacement. You are replacing a regular switch/outlet with another switch/outlet which just happens to be a GFI outlet.
Wire the old switch wires to the new switch and the old outlet wires to the new outlet.
Cut the breaker/s off first !!

I want to fit a light and switch into my new workshop. I have a garage type consummer unit fitted and am not sure how to wire in the light.

I answer questions for free.
I know electric wiring.
However I might not understand your problem.
If I do not understand your problem, add a comment with more information and I will respond.

If I understand correctly you want to add a new switch and a new light in your garage.
And you are starting from scratch with no knowledge.
You are starting with a blank wall.

I do not know what a consummer unit is.
Is that a type of light?

Here's a sketch of the project:
We need an electrical receptacle or wall-plug so we can get electricity.
We need to run a cable from the electrical wall-plug to the switch.
This will bring electricity to your switch.
And then we need to run a cable to the light.

Let's talk about how you get electricity from the wall-plug.
The wall plug has a black and white wire connected to each side.
Your cable has a black and white wire.
You connect your black wire with the black side.
Connect white to the white side.

Now run the cable to your switch.
The cable arrives at the switch.
The cable has a black and white wire.
The switch is wired differently than the wall-plug.
On the switch you connect one black wire.
But the white is not connected to switch.

Now we're ready for the cable going to the light.
The cable to the light has a black and white wire.
Connect the black to the switch.
So now you have 2 black wires connected to the switch.
The black wires are on different screws.
And then connect the two white wires together.

So the switch is wired.
Run the cable to your light.
The cable arrives at the light.
The cable still has a black and a white wire.
Your light will have wires -or- it will have screws.

If light has black and white wires, then connect black to black and white to white.

If your switch has screws, then connect black to brass-screw and white to silver-screw.

Electrical box has one red and one black wire and the switch has two balck wires and a green wire. How do I connect them?

If I understand correctly, you are replacing a switch that has a black and red wire?
And your new switch has 2 black wires + green wire

The green is color-code for ground, and it always connects to bare ground wire.
The switch wires are not color-coded (both are black) so they can connect to either of the two wires that came off old switch.
If switch does not operate, they try reversing the two black wires.

As a general rule, the wires inside your box are color-coded.
The color-code information says:
The black is the Hot from breaker box. This wire carries electricity from the breaker to the switch.
The red wire goes to Load (fan, light, motor). This wire carries electricity to the Load when you turn ON the switch.
