Unfortunately there is no central database or system for this sort of thing.

It is possible (but extremely unlikely) that you could contact Sony customer support and tell them your concerns and supply the serial number. If the original owner registered their device it is remotely possible that Sony could contact them and inquire if the device was sold, stolen or reported missing. However not everyone registers their devices and if it was never registered this wouldn't work.

This is an extreme longshot, however, unless you are talking about a professional studio camera worth tens of thousands of dollars. It is highly doubtful that Sony would want to get involved in tracking down the legitimate owner of a standard consumer device.

Another option is to call the police department (probably where the seller is located) and inquire if that device with that serial number has been reported as stolen.

If you are buying a used item and have even the slightest doubt about it being stolen the best advice is do not buy it. Buying a stolen device is an arrestable offense (Receiving Stolen Property) and, although unlikely, you could get in trouble for it if there was an investigation or the seller got arrested subsequently.

A price that is "too good to be true" is a bad sign. Trust your gut and, even though it might be something you really want, avoid it if it seems questionable.

What is the serial number on a mini Rae 3000 for.

Hello, Jeff -

A serial number for ANY series of a manufactured item identifies each individual item. A serial number can be just numbers or a combination of numbers and letters. Each serial number is unique.

From:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_code
(Quote)
Serial numbers identify otherwise identical individual units with many, obvious uses. Serial numbers are a deterrent against theft and counterfeit products, as they can be recorded, and stolen or otherwise irregular goods can be identified.
(End quote)

Therefore, the serial number on a Mini RAE identifies that particular hand held volatile organic compound monitor.

Best wishes.

How can I find my stolen nikon d5000

Circulate the serial numbers of all stolen items to all dealers and pawn shops in your country, also eBay and any other on-line retailers dealing in second hand goods. I assume you have already provided the Police with this information ?

How do I search for a gun using the serial number

Follow these five steps:
    • 1 Locate the serial number for the gun you want to check. If you are purchasing a gun or checking one that is already in your possession, you can check the documentation that came with the gun. In many cases, the serial number will be noted in the owner's manual. If you don't have the owner's manual you will need to locate the serial number on the body of the gun. The serial number is usually located on the handle or inside the gun, but this does vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.
    • 2 Contact a reputable gun dealer in your area and ask them to run a serial number search for you if you're looking to buy a gun from a private party. In most cases, the dealer will charge you a small fee for this service. However, this is often the fastest, simplest method. Many gun dealers will be able to give you basic records about where and when the gun was registered.
    • 3 Check your local department of law enforcement's website to see if you can run an online gun serial number search. Some states do not maintain a database that individuals can access, so this method may not work in all areas. If you can't find the database, contact a law enforcement representative and ask if an online gun serial number search can be performed in your state.
    • 4 Contact your local police department or sheriff's office to run a gun serial number search if you are looking to purchase a pre-owned gun from a dealer. Police records will indicate whether the gun has been used in a crime or has been reported lost or stolen. Checking the serial number with the police department or sheriff's office is beneficial if you're considering buying a gun from a dealer because they can quickly check whether a gun was used for a crime or reported stolen in all states using the national ATF database.
    • 5 Check the Gun Verify database if you are purchasing a pre-owned firearm from a dealer or individual to make sure that it is not stolen. Gun Verify is a user-based database, meaning gun owners input their own information if their gun is lost or stolen.

My tomtom Go Live 1535TM was stolen at Vallejo Plaza, along redwood st and sonoma Boulevard

There is one thing you can do if you have the serial number of your device. You can find it on the device itself and on a sticker on the packaging of your device. If your device was registered to your TomTom account, you could try contacting TomTom support by phone and ask if they can give you the serial number when you provide them you're account data.
Once you have the serial number you go to the police station and inform them your device was stolen. If you're lucky, one day the police will find the gagsters who stole your GPS, and if they find lots of stolen products, they will probably check the police computer to check if the serial numbers are reported as stolen.

Stolen ipod touch

If someone steals your iPod touch, there is no accurate way to track its whereabouts without software. If your phone does not already have one of the specific location-tracking applications available, you will not be able to see its exact location. However, there are other methods that you may be able to use to eventually recover it.

Check Craigslist, other online bulletin boards and eBay regularly for your neighborhood or city as well as surrounding areas. If the person who stole your iPod tries to sell it, perhaps you will recognize a picture or description of it. Online bulletin boards exist for the purpose of locating stolen items. They exist with the hope that consumers will Google the serial number of an item that they're planning to buy, in order to make sure that it is not stolen. Post your device's serial number at Stolen911 and other online resources, and perhaps someone will notify you. Some websites track the location of recent logins. If you have a Gmail or Facebook account that is accessed from your stolen device, the IP address will be logged by the website. These addresses can be linked to general locations and regions, so you can focus your search in that area.

I just bought a 1983 honda xr 350 dirt bike but the serial number is scratched out so i can not make out the 2 numbers is it possible to tell me the serial numbers so i can insure it?

Good luck mate numbers are usually scratched off for a reason. I would get your money back before you are charged with receiving stolen goods. be careful when buying used items, always have a police check done before you purchase them especially motor vehicles.
Have a nice day,Timo.

Kirby Vacuum

G3 was made 1990 -1993. Kirby sales people make big fuzz about Kirby vacuums sold online saying that it must be stolen to be so cheap. They probably just want to find distributors who sell new Kirby vacuums online so they are trying to get a serial number. If it was stolen prior owned must have reported it to Kirby Company and this is very unlikely even thought it is possible.

Motorola T5700 Talkabout

Hello Player1985,

I don't think there is any easy way to check to see if the radios are stolen or not based on the serial number. Motorola may have some record of this assuming that the original owners reports the radios as stolen to them but most manufacturers do not track this information in my experience for these type of consumer radios. I don't know for sure whether Motorola would or would not have this information, but you certainly can check with them if it will make you feel better.

As far as what they are worth, similar new radios sell for around $80-90 per pair.

Hope that helps.
