Everytime I use the DTS functions to enable my surround sound, no sound goes to my speakers. I am able to use it only for the standard output with the left and right front speakers. What could be causing...

DTS should be enabled only if your source has a DTS digital audio out connected to the receiver.Mostly only DVD / Bluray players have DTS sound and is outputted through an optical or co-axial port on the back of the player. Its a multichannel digital encryption technology where the signal is sent through one cable and your receiver decodes it into 5.1 or 7.1 channels according to the source.

I can't get surround sound to work on my HTR-6030. All the cables are connected properly, and I'm sending the signal from my Blu-Rays optical out into the DTV/CBL optical in of the receiver. I'm only...

Check that the Blueray isn't set to downsample to stereo. Your receiver could also be set on stereo. Do you have a "sound" button where you can cycle through different modes?

Weird surround sound speaker behavior with Denon 2105 7.1

Sounds interesting.
It may sound silly, but can you check all your speaker cables again and confirm whether they are connected to the right connections. please check all cables as also the severed one and please repair it also.

Now please go to the system-set-up and do an auto setup and set up your speakers. Listen to the test tones and confirm that they are coming out of the correct speaker.

Once these are set, then if still there is mismatch of sounds, then we could further trouble shoot.

Reciever only allows 2 channels(speakers) at a time.

I had this problem too. Finally, after using the MCACC setup and making sure all the speakers worked, I found I had to set the source to FM, TV or whatever from the remote control and set the mode to advanced surround sound using the front panal button on the upper right. Had to fool with them a lot. Good luck.

Rear Surround speakers

Best thing to do is to put the unit in 5 channel or 7 channel mode. That will send left ch information to the front left and rear left speakers ( both will get the same information). Ditto with the right channel. The center channel will get centre channel information.

If all the speakers work, go out and rent TOP GUN. ( yes its old), BUT there are a few extreme scenes , one of which is the elevator scene, where the camera changes perspective and suddenly you hear the elevator doors close BEHIND you through only the surround speakers ( have the unit in surround mode....NOT 5 or 7 ch mode ). If this works ok, then you have no problems.

Remember, surround sound only produces information in the rear channels when the information is there. To check out the digital and DTS decoders, get an action flick. If you can, get a remote too, because that will unlock many features about the receiver that you cant get to with the front panel controls. Also go to yamaha and download the owners manual ( its free !!).....that should get you going.....

best of luck...

Surround sound not working properly

Hi guys,

Make sure that your sound aka dvd or whatever is set for a DTS (5.1) set your dvd at bitstreem and your receiver to automatic detection. When your movie will start you will heard your Receiver Relay//Mosfet clicking and a Red led will say DTS once you get there you will be able to select your Doldy digital surround the real one.

Ps: if you want to reset your VR-309 to default HOLD the POWER button for 5 sec unplug it from the wall hold it for 5sec while unplugged and replug it will be rested to default.

Audio problems

Hi, I just started having the same problems with my Onkyo TX-DS575. I have to play with the DSP buttons...the A/B speaker button...and now it has gotten to the point where my family and I lift the receiver up in the front, and slam it back down on the shelf and then hit the DSP buttons again and eventually we get some sound. This unit was already fixed once by Onkyo right after the 2 year warranty ran out for a similar problem. They returned it working...but scratched. This is the second Onkyo receiver that has died an early death within 15 years. I love Onkyo's styling, ease of use and sound, but I found the best way to solve this was by purchasing the Yamaha RX-V861 this week. I am done with Onkyo. Scotty D, Middletown, NJ

Not getting sound from right speaker

How do you have the audio hooked up from the TV set? If its s video or RCA plugs? If it is switch them around and see if it swaps channels that goes out . If it does then the output cable or the jack is bad. If your using an HDMI ir a scart cable. The cable or connections could be bad. Unplug it and reinsert it or while the units on mover it around and see if the audio comes back on.
