What voltage are you getting at the battery? What kind of tractor?

has the tractor got a generator, if so is it a lucas, if so has it 4 big spade connectors, I did an old for mk11 cortina to alternator, the big spaded need conncting, 2 plus 2 but I cannot remember who to do it. I was a young man, lol now almost 60

Sorry iam a thick brit having problems with your spelling which as we all know we cannot spell in the UK or pronounce aluminium or tomatoes so the man to ask is emmisionwiz as hes a ford dealer fitter with enough years under his belt to know exactly what you need to know ,so try a direct question ,but for this year with a seperate regulator why not try a alternator off a later model with a built in regulator ,as for the starter motor then a wire from the contact switch on the back of the key switch that has power when the key is turned to the start position and this wire goes to the small terminal on the starter motor .I do not the facility of a fancy pen thing attached to my computer that i can draw a quick pic for you .

The voltage regulator is built into the alternator; it's not mounted externally.

ck your alternator if you have one large white wire and two smaller dark wires you've got an internal regulator the entire alternator needs to be replaced if bad

a simple voltmeter you can still buy at radio shack will tell you in about 30 seconds

set meter for dc volts 25 volt scale place red probe on battery positive and black probe on battery negative note reading on voltmeter (11 to 12 volts) start truck/car at idle reprobe battery same as before volts should come to about 12/13 have someone give a slight throttle to engine volts should come to 13.8 volts and stay there never going over this if any volt reading was not as described Yep your voltage regulator/alternator is bad

all alternators have built in regulators and the connectors will only fit one way

just put a one wire alt. on it.or test each wire.

you need to put a chevy alternator with a built in regulator on it.
You need a 3 wire alternator. Two wires go to the battery and one wire goes to anything connected to the ignition switch.
