I need to increase the screen brightness on my ibm laptop

I haven't dealt with a lot of Thinkpads, however when I've ran into this situation on Toshiba and Dell it's because the settings in Contol Panel have accidently been set to "battery mode". Go to Control Panel and select "power options", be sure that you have the Plugged-in options set to high. In some cases, as with Toshiba, they have an additional program listed to run these options. Then select this program instead.
To unlock a Thinkpad that has been Supervisory locked is not so easy. You have to take it apart in both cases that I know of. Easiest is to find the system battery located on the Motherboard and remove the battery. Once the battery is removed short out the connector pins for 30-60 seconds. Slip the battery back in and you should be able to get into the Bios settings. Bad news is that it will also reset all settings back to factory though now adays most are Auto settings.
The other way in my opinion is way to complicated, it's easier to ask to person you purchased from for the password. But go here if you wish to try your luck for instructions, http://www.security-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=23102.

Pressing the Fn/Home buttons should increase the brightness, while Fn/End should decrease it. Hope it helps.
