You buy a very expensive TV, and then think that someone else's "best guess" settings are going to be the magic numbers for this set? Do you buy your clothes the same way, or decide what to eat in a restaurant by telling the waiter to bring the same as what some guy from a random table ordered?
The only way to set up your TV, for your sources, in your lounge, and in your lighting conditions is to either buy a test disc and do the adjustments yourself, or to pay for a calibrator to come. They'll go much much further than you can with a DIY test disc and the resulting picture will be drop dead gorgeous. Look up "ISF calibrators" on the web. That's how you get the best from your significant TV investment.

Go to menu on your remote control and select picture setting and try selecting "default" setting to seeif you like the color, if not adjust contrast to about two thirds of the way and brightness to your liking and color to about the middle.
People often calibrate their TVs to give themselves and their family the best possible viewing pleasure. Using the optimal settings on your Sony HDTV will give you an overall picture and sound quality that is the very best that your TV can offer. If you are yet to effectively calibrate your Sony TV you could be only getting a small amount of what your TV can offer you.
