The printer only prints half a picture
SOURCE: printing problem
you may have a faulty Thermal element, sounds like a cold spot in the middle of the print head is messing up your photo. If this is in warranty or is new get them to replace it
SOURCE: TROUBLE PRINTING
These are following cases for this symptom.
If the access indicator flashes in green:
The data size of the image is large and it takes longer to process it
for printing. Printing will start as soon as the data processing
finishes.
If the paper error indicator flashes on the LCD:
The paper is jammed. Turn off the printer and turn it on again, take
out the paper tray, and then remove the jammed paper from the paper
outlet. If you cannot remove the jammed paper, consult with your Sony
dealer or service facility.
If no indicator is lit or flashing:
The thermal head may be overheated. Leave the printer until the head cools down and the printer resumes printing.

the printer needs a proper servicing and dust cleaning done.as there is a sensor in the printer which detects whether there is paper ,or no paper in the paper tray ,that sensor is moved from its orignal position so this problem is coming.but servicing and cleaning will help.
thanks

I downloaded the appropriate driver for Vista windows from a website which has hundreds of different drivers and it works a treat now.

I had the exact same issue with mine! I didn't manage to fix it, but I know exactly what the issue is. If you open the printer, you'll find a black rectangular box above where the film fits inside the printer. This black box is connected to the board above it, and is supposed to press down against the film, and then against the paper for it to print properly. There is a little bar above the rectangular box, and there should be two plastic pieces on both ends of this bar. The bar is also connected to the gears, and when the gears move the bar, the two plastic pieces coming off of the bar push the black box down. When I looked at mine, only one of the plastic pieces was doing its job; the other one was broken, and was sliding on the bar. Tried some super glue, wouldn't work. I suggest tossing it out like I did, unless it's still under warranty or you want to try fixing the plastic piece so the printer head gets pressed down all the way.
