The remote doesn't work but I can get the lights on the ceiling fan to turn on and dim with the light switch. I need to flick the switch a few times and then the lights work and I can even go from dim to bright. However, I can't get the fan to work. Once in a while the fan will eventually turn on but if we turn it off, we can't get it to turn on again. HELP
The remote control is white with grey buttons one to turn on, 3 for fan speeds, 1 light dimmer, and 1 15 minute light turn off button

The switch is allows you to tell the remote which type of light bulb you have installed in the fixture. The CFL setting is for the included compact fluorescent bulbs. With these bulbs, you can only turn them on and off. If you put in incandescent bulbs, set the remote to D. Then you can dim the lights in the ceiling fan, in addition to turning them on and off with the remote. CFL bulbs can't be dimmed with this fixture.
I had this exact problem. I bought two Home Decorator fans from Home Depot and installed them in separate rooms in my house. They have LED lights. I know for a fact that I wired them right because the model fan in Home Depot fan was wired the same and my remote worked perfectly with that fan. Both fans at my house had the same issue of the light not turning all the way off but dimming worked and fan speeds worked. LONG story short, I had another fan in the Master Bedroom that was turned on. When I turned the power to that fan off (wall switch toggled to off), both of the new fans worked!!! Now I need to figure out how to wire the Master bedroom fan correctly (9 wires in one box) but at least I know what the issue was!
Fist, make sure the bulbs are good. Check in another fixture to verify that they indeed work. Since the remote works the fan, dead batteries can be ruled out. The problem will be confined to either a bad receiver in the fixture, or a bad remote.
Since Hampton Bay is a line carried by Home Depot, you may have some luck bringing your remote to HD and trying it out on the display units. You may need to try different address settings on the remote to find one that works if you don't get results the first time. This is usually several two position switches often called "DIP Switches". Change the positions of them one at a time until you find one that works. Try to control a fan first. Once you find a fan the reacts to the commands from the remote, try to control the light. If the light doesn't work - the remote has a bad transmitter or light switch control. You could attempt to disassemble the switch, but most don't have parts that look different when they're bad. You'll probably have to replace the remote.
If the lights work, then the problem is with your fixture. You can remove or simply bypass the radio controller in the fixture and install an after market receiver and remote to control it again. These are sold at Home Depot and work with any paddle fan.
Change the battery. This is the first step when troubleshooting a
ceiling fan remote. The easiest fix to any remote control problem begins
with battery replacement. A 9-volt battery is needed to operate all
Hampton Bay ceiling fan remotes.
Check the light switch used for the ceiling fan. The light switch found
on the wall must be in the "on" position. This allows the ceiling fan to
be operated by remote control
Re-program your remote. If battery replacement fails to get your remote working
again, try to reprogram the remote. Open the battery cover you will see
4 dip switches. These switches must be set to the same position as the
receiver on the fan. Use the screw driver to move the dip switches
either up or down.
Follow the previous step to change the frequency if the ceiling fan is
randomly turning on or off. Other electronic devices such as garage door
openers can interfere with the ceiling fans receiver, causing it to
randomly turn on or off.
mcdevito75 here, Generally the Ceiling fan motor is hooked up by-passing the wall switch but still to the hot laed going to the wall switch whlie the lights are hooked up to the hot lead after the wall switch, So without the remote, Manually operate your fan and lights. First with the wall switch off the fan should work and the lights no work. Now turn the fan off with the pull chain on the fan shroud close to the ceiling. Now turn wall switch on and lights should work with wall switch and the fan should also work. if so, re-program the remote or change the batteries or even re--place the remote.

Hunter ceiling fan with remote, have 5, 4 are seriously impaired! Lights dim to half strengh after variable time 10 seconds-30 minutes. And lights or fan turns on randomly (come home & fan on full blast), and one in which the lights won't dim (just blinks when try to dim)! Hunter "kinda" admits there is serious problem with remote but doesn't have a solution. Tells people to try changing to different code due to possible interference (pain in **** to change code on ceiling base!), was totally ineffective. Then replaced receiver in ceiling base (another total pain) in 3 fans with new ones sent Hunter, still totally useless. Hunter's suggestion, don't use the remote, just use the pull chain. If I had wanted a pull chain fan, I'd have bought a pull chain fan. TOTALLY USELESS! Moral of story: If you want a remote ceiling fan (my friend found out that all their remotes are made by the same company in Taiwan), don't buy Hunter!!!!!
P.S. I found a "Kinda"- fix for the lights dimming to half strenth. After turning on the lights, wait 1 second, then dim lights slightly, they will then stay on the strength that you dim them to.
- P.P.S. When I changed the receiver in the one where the lights won't dim, it "solved" that problem...Now it has the same problem as the others, lights or fan turn on randomly!

The remote is a Hampton Bay remote that should dim the light and fan on and off. I replaced the battery and do not have a red light when I press the button. Light and fan does not turn off with remote.
Did you have to wire in the remote? If so you prob hooked up the light to constant power source. more info on number of wires on remote unit and wires on ceiling fan pls.
