Hi, I have a Kipor sinemaster 1000 generator that has been in storage for a few years added fresh fuel and engine started. The 12v dc works however when I plug an appliance in the main power plug there is...

The DC output for battery charging is from the engine alternator and is completely independent from the generator inverter.

As this is an inverter unit the typical polarization techniques for standard generators will not apply.

The ouput indicator being lit means the inverter input output should be good. This further implies a circuit disconnect state at the outlets. Try pressing the overload reset switch to make sure it is not in an odd state.

My katolite 3kw generator has no ac output after being stored for 10 years. Any ideas ?

Hi Lonne! After such a long time the magnetism will have dropped out in the alternator. But don't worry this is an easy fix.
1.If fitted, turn Voltage Changeover/selector switch to highest output available on the generator (usually 220~230v)
2.Re-install the AVR/Capacitor (if capacitor be sure the connections go in original position)
3.Start generator running and turn on all breakers
    4.Plug in corded drill
5.Pull trigger and turn drill head in reverse direction 10 rotations (anticlockwise when looking from behind the drill)
6.Pull drill trigger to see if power has been restored.
7.If no power or power low after this procedure, replace the AVR/Capacitor and run for 20 minutes without load to re-magnetize and stabilize the field.

If it does not produce any power after this please see our video on testing the alternator (2nd video down) https://www.generatorguru.com/help-me-fix-my-generator-repair-advice/

My generac rv generator runs bu no voltage output.

Try putting 12 volts across the commutator at the brushes. Ust a low current battery nor a car storage battery.

Good luck,

What is wrong with output?

Here is a PDF with troubleshooting tips and wiring diagrams: http://www.kiporpowersystems.com/pdf/service/IG3000~1.PDF
From Page 36 - If no AC power, first check for continuity between the terminals on the receptacle and the red and black wires going to the inverter module. See the wiring diagram. Check the contacts for discoloration or evidence of burning.

What faults can a change over switch caurse between the generator and the load

One consideration is how many circuits and how much total wattage is being used when the generator is in service.
"Gas Powered Generator GG2300 2300 Watts Surge 2000 Watts Continuous Output 10 Hours of Run Time at Full ."
This is a relatively small generator with 2000 watts output, so the problem may be that the generator can not handle the wattage demand. You can get a pretty good estimate of the wattage demand by adding up the wattage of everything , all lights, appliances, etc that's being powered by the generator. If the total wattage is greater than the output of the generator (2000 watts) then the generator is too small.

Heater fires 3 times then quits, light on control board quits blinking then minutes later it tries again.

It sounds like a weak pilot generator. They wear out after a number of years. It is trying to fire which means the safety loop is all good. Sometimes the pilot generator is strong enough to keep the pilot valve open, but upon call for heat the main gas valve isn't getting enough voltage to open (and a good voltage output from the generator drops to nothing). It's not too hard of a diy

Have a 1993 ford e350 jamboree that the alternator is overcharging, put new voltage reg. unit on alternator and it seem to fix the problem, but when i went to use it again the charging light came back on...

If you have an engine computer that controls the alternator, you will have to check the wiring from the alt. to the PCM. Also check any fusible links and grounds are often overlooked.
Do you have dual alternators?

SECTION 414-00: Charging System - General Information 2002 E-Series Workshop Manual
DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION Charging System The charging system is a negative ground system consisting of the following:
  • generator
  • integral/internal voltage regulator
  • charging system warning indicator
  • storage battery
  • necessary wiring and cables
The generator is belt-driven by the engine accessory drive system. Refer to wiring diagrams for schematics and locations of the components and wiring.
The battery is a 12 volt direct current source connected in a negative ground system. The battery case is sealed and includes two vent holes to release gases. The battery has three major functions:
  • engine cranking power source
  • voltage stabilizer for the electrical system
  • temporary power when electrical loads exceed the generator output current
The optional dual generator package (7.3L diesel engine only) consists of an upper/lower dual generator system. The upper generator is a 6G 50/110 generator with a 2.49:1 pulley ratio. The lower generator is a 6G 50/110 generator with a 2.32:1 pulley ratio. Thus the upper and lower generators are not interchangeable.
This system is also monitored and controlled by the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM monitors both the upper and lower generator I circuits to determine both generators' output and set possible fault codes (diagnostic trouble codes [DTCs]). The PCM only controls the lower generator by turning it on or off by opening or closing the lower generator off only when the glow plugs are commanded on by the PCM to avoid possible damage (excessive voltage) to the glow plugs.
Both generators are independent of one another and only control themselves (through their own internal voltage regulator). If one generator fails, the other generator can maintain system performance under light load conditions. Under a heavy load, the PCM should detect a problem, set a DTC and illuminate the warning indicator.
The PCM controls the charging system warning indicator and will command the light on if the PCM detects a problem on the monitored circuits.

Generator power to battery storage, is it possible?

You can do it by a UPS like system, but do you think, that you will pay less for it.
Your generator produces power and uses fuel proportional to the output power.
The efficiency of the generator at half or low load is less, than on full, but that of the UPS and the battery is much much less than this.

Low voltage generator output

Hi there,
Nothing about the bumpy dirt road would have done this but the 10 years of storage might mean that you've got dirty slip rings. Plugging a drill into the 10Kw generator isn't going to tell one much about the power coming out of it, you need a stove :-)
After a camshaft replacement I'd want to use the "Hz" function of the DVM to make sure I was getting 60 Hz.

Regards,
Carl
