Jenn Air Ice Maker Ejector Fingers Freeze Up

I have had this problem from Day One on my Jenn Air side-by-side refridgerator (model JCD2389DES) and it's driving me crazy. The plastic, rotating fingers that sweep the cubes from the tray get a build-up of ice. This ice build-up prevents the fingers from passing through the comb-like feature that exists above the cube tray. The cubes never get ejected into the bin.

I can physically remove the ice from the paddles/fingers, but after one or two cycles, the problem returns. It's become a habit now to reach into the freezer every time I walk past the fridge to flick off the ice.

Jenn Air has been zero help.

Could it be related to the fact that I feed the ice maker with water from my reverse-osmosis system? It's much lower pressure and flow than the tap water.

Hello, Yes you may be on the right track. Some manufactures like Jenn-Air, Viking, Sub-Zero, etc. require a higher inlet water pressure across the inlet solenoid valve to close the diaphragm after the ice machine stops calling for water. There are multiple solutions. But first, check the water pressure to your home to make sure you have 65-70 psi of pressure entering the home. Here is a link to our web site for a reasonably priced solution to increase the discharge working pressure from your RO System storage tank to the Jenn Air: http://www.puresafe.com/RO/html/eps-3tpp.html This is a modification that can be done to your system. It is a Patented Piston Actuated Permeate Pump that relieves the Permeate or Pure Water "BACK"-Pressure when the pure water enters the storage tank so the tank can store more water and build more working pressure. You could also increase the size of the storage tank, increase the size and daily production of the Membrane Filter to recover the tank water quicker, or add additional storage tanks for more volume of storage. Another method would be to use an "Atmospheric Storage Tank" with the RO System, and a Pressure Delivery Booster Pump to **** the water out of the storage tank and Pump it to the required location under higher pressure and flow when compared to the Conventional Pressurized Bladder Tank that you own now. The drill down path to our site for this information would be: www.puresafe.com, Purification, Reverse Osmosis, Residential, Pump Assisted Reverse Osmosis, EPS-3TPP, or other systems on that page. Hope this helped. Victor Kernes

SOURCE: Ice maker jammed. Ejector fingers in incorrect position.

The ice maker should make an attempt to get the fingers in the correct position on its own. If it doesn't then it probably is bad. I always that out the jammed ice cube with a hair dryer till the fingers move over to the harvest position. No need to remove the ice maker. Their is going to be a fouled ice cube on these newer ice makers from time to time.

Before you go crazy just defrost the unit over night and then turn it back on. Possible e that the evaporator froze up due to the open door..Let it stabilize for at least a day and then check to see if all is copacetic.

I have a Jenn-Air refrigerator #JCD2389DES. The ice maker became stuck and kept delivering ice cubes even after dispenser was released. I finally opened the freezer door and got it stopped. Now it...

Yes it could be either, BUT I would go back and make sure that everything you did to stop it the first time is undone. Is everything setted correctly? Is the switches in the right place?

Neither the solenoid or the microswitch could cause the problem you had before, so I would suspect something is not right with the ice maker itself.

Ice maker jammed. Ejector fingers in incorrect position.

Is the position off - or the icetray heater failed?
Just before ejection - there is a heater element that warms the ice for easy discharge.

Check that the heater is working.

Reply with the model # of the fridge for more exact help.

Thanks!!

Jenn Air Side by Side Refridgerator

You could have a layer of solid ice at the bottom of your icetray which is binding everything up. Remove ice tray and any ice from the bottom. Reinstall and be careful of the connection on the back of the ice tray, you may have to turn it a little to get it to mesh correctly. refill and try. Good luck.
