Sharp R959SLMA I just bought one of these 2nd hand.... When you put something in it to cook, press the time and start, there is an almighty bang/noise that sounds like electrical arcing coming from behind the control panel/side... Do it again immediately after and it does not do it. It will cook on microwave, so don't think it's the magnetron. Could it be the capacitor charging or something?? Help

Could be arcing around HV transformer or even an HV wire, Sometimes an insulator on a capacitor will get old, dusty or breakdown and arc between the terminals. Have you ran this with the cover off to see if you can see any visual arcing??? If it cooks sure sounds like it is probably not the mag. Something supplying power to the mag arcing to ground I would expect.

SOURCE: microwave ovens

The cover is probably the magenetron. That is where the microwaves come from. If the bread was moist, it might have left condensate in the unit which is causing the sparking. Unplug the unit, leave the door open over night. If you can remove that cover, do so. Be sure to carefully replace it before using the unit. Never turn on a microwave with nothing in it.

SOURCE: Makes a loud humming sound and blows fuse behind controll panel

Most likely a shorted capacitor is causing the fuse to blow. Easy and cheap to fix.

How do i change the power setting on a Sharp carousel microwave

Which model of Sharp microwave do you have?

For the SMC1441CB, after setting the cook time, press the power level button and then the appropriate digits for the percentage of full power to use. For full power, press power level then 1 and then 0. For 50% power, press power level then press 5.

For the SMC0710BB, after setting the cook time, press the Power button until you see the desired power level displayed on the LCD screen. Press Power once to get 100% power. Press Power 6 times to get 50% power.

For the R-659YW, you set the power before setting the cooking time. You press the Power button several times to get to the desired power level. Pressing Power 7 times will have the microwave cook with 40% of its full power level.

Many current Sharp appliance manuals are available on their product page or the Sharp support page. The current Sharp microwaves are listed here: http://www.sharpusa.com/ForHome/HomeAppliances/Microwaves/Models.aspx?facet:configurationfilter=Countertop . Other appliance manuals are available when you enter the model number in the search bar at http://www.sharpusa.com/Support.aspx .

I hope this helps.

Arcing and bang noise

The arching is probably to the cabinet where paint is missing. This usually occurs at the edge where the microwaves travel into the cabinet. You can get microwave paint from your local appliance parts supplier. It's special paint that is non - conductive.

Auto Cook not working

If autocook is not working and everything else it, there is an issue with the sensor in the oven that detects the steam, The emission of steam is what triggers that unit to shut off. If it wont cook on any settings then the issue is with the microwave generator not putting out enough power. This could be from a lot of things.

Sharp R959SLMA auto cook not working

please make this test and fix it. God bless you
  1. Check the power diode This electronic component is responsible for transmitting current in one direction. If the diode becomes defective it will cause your microwave to not heat. Test the diode and replace it if necessary.
  2. High voltage capacitor Responsible for storing electricity, this part is a key component in any microwave. Remove, discharge, and test the capacitor to determine if it requires replacement.
  3. Damaged magnetron Responsible for generating waves and producing heat. When your microwave is no longer heating properly, replacement will be required.
  4. Thermal Cutoffs Examine the thermal cutoffs on both the magnetron and the oven itself. Take off one of the leads and using a volt-ohm meter on RX1, check the terminals. If you get a result other than zero, replace the thermal cutoffs.

My mother just bought an Emerson MW8119 Microwave and can't figure out how to only set say 15 seconds cook time. Is it possible?

Hi! I just purchased the same microwave, and came online to find the solution. I was then able to find the correct answer to this problem. On this model, Emerson does not put a "time cook" button for odd cook times such as 15 seconds. Instead, they have you push the "Power Button" prior to setting the cook time.

If you want to cook on full power, press the power button once, and then enter your cooking time and press start. If you want to cook on 50% power or 30% power or something like that, push the "Power Button" several times until the appropriate power level is displayed, then enter the cook time and press start.

The reason that it starts up right away when *********** pushes the 1 button is because Emerson has the quick cooking feature for 1 minute through 6 minutes. You only have to push the number once to get the 1 minute cook time or anywhere through 6 minutes respectively.

Hope this helps!
