Detergents don't dissolve as well anymore because they no longer contain phosphate. It was outlawed recently. if you live in an area with hard water, it is especially noticable. This website explains it and sells an all-natrual product that contains no phosphate.

SOURCE: powdered dishwasher detergent stays stuck in dispenser after wash

There is a rather delicate mechanism which controls that soap door. Often this is the first part of a dishwasher to cause trouble. Instead of using the powdered detergent in the soap holder just pour the measured amount into the floor of the machine.

Once you have used up the powder, you might wish to consider a tablet which also just gets tossed.

SOURCE: Detergent left in dispenser cup

You either do not have enough water getting itno the machine or it is not hot enough. 5 years old so I would suspect a plugged screen on the fill valve.

SOURCE: the powder dispenser on my ls 610a dishwasher

Try to make sure that the path for water isn't blocked to the dispenser. Ours will do that too if we forget to leave some space for the streaming water to hit the little tray.

SOURCE: After the dishwasher runs there is a lot of soap

With the LG LDF6810 model, this is not a common problem. Please try the following test, With and empty dishwasher, add a small to normal amount of dry dishwasher powder and run an (empty) load.
Check to see if any soap remains in the dispenser cup.
If any remains, here are three things to do: 1.) Upgrade your dishwasher detergent to a name brand powder (e.g.: Electrosol or Cascade)
2.) When you load the dishwasher, do not place large items in the front, near the door/soap dispenser.
3.) Before you load the dirty dishes for the next several loads, with your hand, turn both the upper and lower wash arms so they point at the door. Load as you normally do and push the racks fully in. Before you close the door, spin both the upper and lower arms and confirm that they spin freely and neither hits anything. if either does not spin freely, pull out the rack and arrange so the arms can spin freely.
I find that the only time I have left over detergent powder is when the wash arms do not spin freely.
This is a common problem on most every energy star/water conserving dishwashers.
Please report back what you find, OK?

Gritty murky crockery powder dispenser has sticky powder after the wash still in it.

Is it the dispenser that has murky powder or the dishwasher?
Dispenser: Is the dispenser being blocked from opening all the way during the wash load? This can happen in some dishwashers if a tall pan or dish is blocking the dispenser from fully opening. Hence, part of the detergent stays inside the dispenser and is goopy/murky/yuckie.
White powder on racks, nonstick spatulas, silverware basket: There has been a recent change in dishwasher formulation that can cause a white residue to deposit. Phosphates have been all but removed from dishwasher detergent. If there is a white residue on the dishwasher racks, etc, try a dishwasher cleaner such as Affresh for dishwashers and then look to consumer union for a new formulation. Be of good cheer: phosphates are very bad for our waterways, fish and fauna. This change was made in laundry detergent about 16 yrs ago.

Powdered Soap Dispenser

The soap door doesn't open fully on that model, and usually flips fully open as you open the dishwasher door.
It relies on the top spray arm turning to 'wash' the soap out of the drawer - and that will be the problem. The spray arm isn't turning.
Check the spray arm for blocked jets at the very end - use a pin to clear them out, or replace them - check both spray arms. Make sure the spray arm rotates freely also.
Remember the dishwasher isn't a garbage disposal unit - remove food deposits from plates etc before loading the machine. Run a dishwasher cleaner through the machine now and then. Food like pasta, or fruit pips often get carried to the end of spray arms and block them.
If using a 30 min rapid wash program ONLY and dishwasher tablets, put the tab in the cutlery basket as it wont have time to dissolve fully if you put it in the dispenser.

Dishwasher powder remains behind in the dispenser

You might be filling the dispenser too full. Try to clean out the old powder and try to not fill it as full. The excess might be building up and causing the dispenser to open correctly.

Soap not disolving

is it liquid or powder? we had this problem with cascade powder.... tried liquid cascade and the same thing happened even though i'd been using cascade for YEARS.... manual said could be detergent was "old" and beyond its shelf-life, or that we used too much or too little (go figure that one out LOL).... not trying to promote a brand here, but we switched to palmolive ECO gel and haven't had a problem since -- no goop left in dispenser!.... hope that helps... -cynthia :)

Soap is left in dispenser, not enough water? dishes are still dirty

I bet if you go buy a box of brand name Dishwasher powder (e.g. Electrosol or Cascade) and use it in place of generic, ultra-cheap dishwasher powder, your problems will be solved almost immediately.

If you still have problems, please post back here. OK?
