My diesel pramac P9000 generator engine is not starting even cranked for long time what is the problem

Check and replace the spark plug, clean filters and try again. If this doesn't fix it, it is probably the carb. Clean it and try a SMALL squirt of starter fluid

SOURCE: low power

Hi ,
firstly i would do a full service on it , all filter and fluids , oil/coolant water,fuel filter(s) and air filters
pay attention to any water seperators , check all fuel line connectors and unions are tight and in good order ( drawing a small amount of air into the fuel system if often the cause of ''a lack of power '')
check your diesel as it absorbs moisture and can severley effect the running of an engine .
if this has no effect
get a rag /goggles and the right size open ended spanner and slacken each fuel injector nut whilst the engine is running , listen for the engine noise going down , if it dosent this means the injector is deffective ( might need replacing or cleaning ) do this to each injector in turn , be very careful as you do this , the diesel is at 200bar pressure and can injected you ( hence the rag )
a final one is the fuel lift pump may be deffective , they often partially work and starve the engine at maximum revs , depending on your engine this will be an electric one or driven directly from the engine block , just follow the fuel lines from your diesel tank ,.

SOURCE: perkins 3 cylinder powered pramac generator

Start looking at your safety circuits.

1. High water temp
2. Low Oil
3. Low water etc...

From the manual these are the protection circuits.

• Engine protection: low oil pressure, high engine temperature.
• Genset protection: under/over voltage, overload, battery charger failure, battery voltage out of limits,
under/over frequency, start failure.
• Circuit breaker protection: IV poles.
• Differential protection.


Any one of them will trip the fuel relay closed. What you may be able to do is disconnect one at a time each protection circuit and see when the fuel relay opens. (Make sure to reconnect each one if it had no effect on the fuel solenoid)

Once you isolate which circuit it is in then you can chase wires or change the bad switch.

With the switch set to AUTO, the engine may crank and start at any time without warning. Such automatic starting occurs when utility power source voltage drops below a preset pevent or during the normal exercise cycle. Perkins 20 kva diesel generator runs and stops in about 2 minutes.alternator failure is displayed on screen.

Ensure any engine control switch is set to the run position, with the load disengaged. Manually set the air shut off valve (if fitted) to the run position (see Fig. 18), Turn the key switch to the start position, which will energize the solenoid allowing the engine to crank over for a few seconds then start.

Check the instrument panel is showing normal running oil pressure, and the ammeter for charge to the engine batteries.
Allow the engine to run for five minutes checking the instruments are reading correctly. Stop the engine and check the oil and coolant levels, replenish if necessary.

5000s diesel will not start even on ether

mmost engines have a low oil switch. if generator is not level or it is low oon oil by just a little it will not start hope this helps bob

My engine is only one piston, when it is running and I stopped it, after I stop it I can't stat it immedaitly it doesn't run mean it doesn't have the compression I can drive it without compressing the...

It is near impossible to restart these diesels IMMEDIATELY after stopping UNLESS you press the compression release OR let the pressure bleed off for a time.

On the top of the engine is usually a compression release lever. Press this down and crank the engine for a few seconds then release the lever and the unit should start.

On some units the lever is hard to find. My unit had a panel to remove and I have put a hinge on it to make it easy open. I now always start the unit using the compression release as it is easier on the starter motor.

If the unit has a battery box, measure it and get the largest size that will fit and of course the correct voltage. Diesels take a lot to crank.

You can search battery sizes on the internet for physical size. NAPA has a pretty good selection.
