Power lights and harddrive lights come on for about 5 seconds, then goes out. Has new power adapter and battery charging light does light up when unit is plugged in and stays lit. I can press power button each time and the lights come on for about 5 seconds and goes out. Unit seems to be getting power, but does not stay on for longer than about 5 seconds. Display does not have the chance to come on before unit goes out.
You have all the simpthoms of an overheating laptop.
For starters, get a vacuum and **** all the dirt from the fan or fans on the back/ bottom of your laptop.
Then turn on your laptop. It should stay longer than 5 seconds.
If this solves your problem, then you are lucky.
If not, you'll need to have your laptop serviced, and clean the heat sink, and have reapplied the heat transfer compund on the processor.
Not a big deal, and not that expensive either.
