SOURCE: Latitude d600

Dave,
At this point the virus, and it was a virus no doubt, has done irreparable damage to the operating system, and possible the hard drive. You will need an operating system disc, no way around that. Once you have the disc, then you will need to reformat the hard drive using the full NTFS format, not the quick format, to ensure total deletion of the virus, and install a new operating system. If the hard drive won't format or if you have any issues during or after the install, then the hard drive has or is failing and will need replaced. If you need any futher asststance with this just ask.

SOURCE: I can log on using my password but then nothing

Found this on the Dell support site.

  • "Function key combination — Can be used to select display
arrangement but these are best used to cycle through views after
    display settings are chosen
Press <Fn><F8> to select the desired display arrangement."
It sounds like the display has somehow been changed to display on "external monitor only.

Here is the link to your users guide where I found this info.

SOURCE: I have to hit DELET-ALT-CONTROL on startup to get

I suspect that your laptop may be infected by malware. If you can get your system to start, you should run an antivirus program such as McAfee, Norton Anti-virus or Kaspersky Anti-virus. Also a program such as System Mechanic can clean up and optimize your system to improve performance. Depending upon when you last ran a defragmentation of your Hard Drive, you could be suffering performance problems related to disk fragmentatiion. it takes some time to perform these maintenance operations, but you can get your system up to snuff if you take the time.

Blank screen

A white blank screen? That sounds like the virus changed your display settings. Click Ctrl+Alt+Del to get to the task manager. Press and hold the Ctrl key plus the Alt Key then hit the Del key. When the task manager opens up Click File at the upper left corner of the window then select New Task RUN. When the create New Task Window opens type: explorer.exe and hit OK. See if it starts populating your desktop icons and shows the start menu and task bar. If so, the virus changed your settings.

To change your display background click Start/Control Panel and look for Display or Appearance and Personalization. When it opens select the Desktop tab and change the desktop background. Hopefully the white will go away.

You may have to get into Safe Mode to do the above if the virus disabled the Task Manager.

I was forwarding 1 file, when the mouse became a cross, instead of an arrow as normal case, so I can't close or delete or do anything else.

Press your "control" "alt" and "delete key at the same time on your keyboard. control is the key that says "ctrl" on it on the bottom left side and "alt" is near it. When you press all three keys at the same time, you will see a prompt that asks if you want to open "windows task manager". choose "yes" or click on "windows task manager".

Click on the tab that says "applications" at the top. Then click on the file that was stuck during forwarding and then click the "end" box at the bottom. This will get rid of the problem. If you can't figure out how to get into the task manager, then just press the power button the pc and hold it in until it turns off all the way. That will also get rid of the file on the screen.

I was on Petco website and the screen went blank, I tried to restart but just get a blank screen with the curser. I've tried the startup repair but it comes up wih an error and stops...i'm willing to go...

try hitting control/alt/delete at the a same time to bring up task manager once inside windows. go to the "files" tab, and then "new task (run)" and type in "explorer". this should load your desktop and taskbar.

if it does not, then you likely have a virus.
