SOURCE: onkyo tx-sr604

easiest fix is to take all hdmi straight to tv. then come out of tv with optical cable to your receiver. that way what ever your watching will automatically be sent to the receiver thru optical. you even will get dolby dig. also you can have audio from your tv when you dont want to use your surround. keeps receiver on one input also.

How to connect Sony dvd player to onkyo TX-8511 receiver

The TX-8511 is an older AV receiver with only composite video inputs. Your DVD player may not provide this type of output as it's not capable of HD video. If your dvd player has a composite output with a Red, White & Yellow set of outputs, that will connect into the Video 2 inputs on the receiver. Your TV will need to connect up to the Video2 or Monitor output. You'll need a set of composite video cables with the red-white & yellow RCA type plugs.

As far as the TV audio goes... unless it is the primary source of the audio (tuned through its own antenna and available no where else) why don't you just run the actual primary source's (cable/sat, whatever) best digital audio straight to the Onkyo and skip the middleman that adds nothing to it but expensive unnecessary cable hops.

I'd also run each video sources absolute best video straight to the TV for the same reason.

I have a sony bravia TV with an optical audio out. I have plugged the optical cable from the tv out and into the DVD optical 1 input and receive no sound? I have setup the audio to optical 1 and still not...

Most of the old Sony TVs released before 2007 has an issue with its optical output. only when you use a direct cable connection to its VHF/UHF input, the optical outputs audio. Otherwise, you have to stick on the A/V connection to receive the TV audio though sound system. Please get back to me with the model # of the TV so that I can check whether the TV comes under the category.
Thanks for understanding.

How to connect my audio system directly to sony bravia

There is usually three ways to connect a TV to a Surround Sound system:

1. Optical Audio Cable (Fiber Optic)
2. Coaxial Audio Cable (Orange)
3. Composite Audio Cables (Left - White, Right - Red)

Once you select a cable to use that is compatible with both devices, you must then connect it to the output on the TV set, and one of the inputs on the Surround Sound Receiver (preferably the Video Input or whatever type you selected to use). Then you must change the input on the Receiver to the proper input that you connected the cable to (most Receivers will have a Source Button if not individual source buttons i.e. Tuner, Tape, CD, Video, Aux, etc.).
Note: Some Receivers if using a certain type of input will not have sound out of all 5 speakers unless the input is 5.1 compatible.

Connect the receiver to a Samsung LN32A450 TV?

I have a model LN32A330 which is probably has connections similar to yours. I'm not home right now to check whether it has a digital output, but I know for sure it has an analog audio output available. You can run that output to an available auxiliary or a/v source input on the receiver and that will work for you. That's how I have mine connected. If the set has a digital output and the receiver offers digital inputs, that's another connection possibility. The digital output on some brands of TV only works in conjunction with the tuner, and may not always have output. The analog method is guaranteed to work.

If this solution has helped get you on the way, please take a moment to give it a fixya rating. Thanks for asking here!

T.v.

If you have a VCR it is easy. Just plug RCA cables into audio out right and audio out left (on VCR) and other ends into VCR audio in right and left at rear of your receiver. If there are two sets of video audio inputs, push button on front of receiver to agree with where you plugged cables in. (ie. Video 1 and video 2)
