SOURCE: How to replace drive belts on Technics dual

First of all you will need some mechanical mind to open out the set. The tape mechanism has to be removed and the connections should be noted and removed. If the old belt is already in the mechansim then you will not have any issue with the direction of the belt to go around the capstan flywheel. If you have alreaddy obtained the correct belt then carefully open the back of the mechanism to remove and reset the new belt. When replacing check for the free running of the capstan if not use a small drop of oil to free. If the belt was not there then wind from the motor to the second flywheel after running it around the first flywheel to drag it along so that when the motor turns you have the flywheels turning freely. reset the back plate using a thin probe type tool to hold the belt and release to the motor. For a first time it may be a bit difficult but try again. Hope you get this right. Good day

SOURCE: Technics RS-TR272 dual cassette deck

Ahh, Another Dual cassette deck. These are typically not worth a repair charge. I went looking for a service manual but Hi Fi Engine did not have one but they had a Owners Manual. Any unit that has a specification as to wow and flutter starting new at .18% was never made to be a long lasting deck of any quality. I don't like to be negative about people equipment but you might be better off getting a better deck from the start. If you think it is worth the repair, then send it to someone but I don't think you will want to sink $100 into a unit like this.
I am not saying it is unrepairable but that with what you come out in the end you could have made a better choice for a deck to buy.
It is probably a bad solder joint or bad capacitor on the circuit board.
I am in Chicago and would look at it for you if you want.

How to replace the capstan belt on a Technics RS-M63 ?

Get the service manual and look at the mechanical drawings of where the belt goes. Most seasoned Technicians just go in and do it. A beginner will have to be more cautious. There are other things in the deck that also need attention like parts oiled and other idlers replaced.
Some Technics decks were ever made to be repaired.

I need to replace the drivebelts on my deck. Does anybody know where I can find spares in Melbourne Oz? Also if you have part numbers or something.

All you need to do is measure the Drive Belt's diameter. They are universal, not specific to any brand.
Once you have that put the words: "Cassette Drive belts" and the size in mm, into Google and I'm certain you will find someone to post to that part of the world.

RS-TR272 dual deck and capstans seem to be locked in both decks. When you try to play a tape the take up reel does not turn. Can not get fast forward or fast reverse to work. How to fix and is it worth...

DO NOT spray anything into this unit. The problem is a slipping belt and is a simple fix for any audio shop. While possible, it is rare for a motor to fail. There is a small belt that drives the take up side along with a felt clutch assembly that can slip. If this is the case, the unit will realize that the take-up reel is not turning and shutdown the unit. Please have this serviced. The belts will run around $6-$10 total.

Technics RS-TR272 Dual - Won't Reverse

Cassette decks that have been sitting for long periods have problems with drive belts and idlers becoming slack or decomposing of the rubber compound. If you wish to keep the unit, please have it cleaned and have belts/idlers replaced with new ones by a professional service. Also have controls and switches cleaned of built up tarnish and mildew to prevent noisey or drop-out audio
