I have a 32inch vizio tv and every so often while I'm watching it , it will scramble and a really loud piercing noise comes on and then the tv won't turn off- you have to unplug it. it's doing it again now

well in this case maybe you have problems in your tv power supply. you need technician to cheack it..... as you said everything in your house electricity is okey.
This is most likely happening because your tv is upconverting the dvd signal to be compatible with your hdtv. If your dvd player has no upconverting feature of its own then it is more likely to happen. It's just your tv trying to compensate for the low quality signal coming from your dvd player resulting in intermittent scrambling or "noise". You should try to invest in a blu ray player when possible.
sounds like a problem with the main board and or av connector cord. contact vizio and let them know you are seeing some red pixelation. some parts on vizios carry lifetime warranties, it has been my experience that this is a covered issue. hope this helps.
