1803 bobbin winder reset button

When bobbin winder latch is pushed against bobbin, it does not disengage the clutch. Machine still sews. If I take top lid off, I can manually release it by pushing the lever over, replace the top cover and wind the bobbin fine. Once I press the bobbin Winder Reset button down, it will stay. But next attempt to wind a bobbin will not disengage it (or flip up the reset button.

SOURCE: Problem with winding thread onto

first you must make sure the winder shaft is turning by moving it to the right a little and see if you can turn it by hand.
If it is turning ok then there is a rubber ring on the other end of the winder shaft and it should come in contact with the drive which turnes it ,if it is worn it might need a new rubber.

SOURCE: Bobbin winder will not spin on sewing machine

If you take the top off you will see a tiny rubber tire that engages the winder to the handwheel. Over time they get really soft are really hard and disintgrate. If you have a local sewing shop take the old one in and get a new one to slip on it takes only a few minutes and cost usually less that $2.00

SOURCE: bobbin winder stopped working

Either the winder rubber has worn down, or there may be some residue on the winder rubber, ot the winder may have seized through lack of oil which is quite common in that case it will need to be replaced

HI Vera,

I just picked up a 4613 and had the same confusion. The answer is...the bobbin winder is built in!! What you do is leave the machine threaded as normal and simply slide open the bobbin cover about an inch. You will see an arrow on the cover which you line up with an arrow on the machine bed. In this position, push the presser foot and run the machine and the bobbin will wind itself. It's actually really nice as you don't ever need to unthread the machine.

Bobbin Winder

I looked in the manual for this machine, and I can't find out what "E2" means to your machine. However, there IS a list of FAQ at the back of the manual that is generally helpful. The first thing I would do, though, is turn off the machine, push the bobbin winder spindle all the way to the right to engage it, then firmly push it to the left. When you engage the bobbin winder, it activates a clutch that diverts power to the winder; that clutch might not be totally disengaged. Also, make sure your buttonhole lever is all the way up, and you have not selected the twin needle function. You might want to contact Singer through their FB account and ask what E2 means.

Machine will not go forward when pressing the foot pedal. Manual says something about checking bobbin winder indent. What is a "Bobbin winder indent."

bobbin winder is the little spindle on top usually right side above the flywheel. you need to move it left away from the stop as this engages the bobbin winder and disengages the needle movement. your manual should show this under Winding a bobbin. these machines dont have a clutch on the flywheel, just moving the bobbin spindle declutches

My elna sewing machine bobbin won't spin on top to wind thread around. The fly wheel spins though...I've been putting thread on the bobbins by hand.

If the fly wheel is going around then the clutch isn't disengaged to wind the bobbin, you need to pull out the flywheel on your model to disengage the clutch for bobbin winding.

tally_girl_59.jpg
Take thread from thread spool across to bobbin winder thread guide, then back to bobbin and thread the tail through the hole on top of the bobbin. Place bobbin onto spindle on top of machine and then push it against the stop to engage the bobbin winding motor. HOld the thread tail up and start winding slowly until the bobbin core has been covered including the starting point. Stop and trim off the thread tail with scissors. COntinue winding bobbin and give the thread a nudge if needed to wind evening top middle and bottom of the bobbin. A good smooth wind is important. Also don't wind at full speed and keep an eye on the thread reel that the thread is coming off, you don't want it bouncing around as this will **** the thread and stretch then relax it affecting your bobbin wind.

Obviously if you know this and the bobbin winding mechanisim is just not working, then it will need a service/replacement by an Elna repair person.

Hello, when trying to thread the bobbin, I turn the fly wheel toward me to disengage it from the needle mechanism but the bobbin wheel will not turn. It is an old machine a contessa 120. Could you advise...

Do you also need to press the bobbin spindle over against a stop to make it engage the bobbin winder? Many of these mechanical machines have a system where the bobbin winder is driven by a black rubber which is engaged against the main drive wheel in this way.

So, if you are disengaging the clutch, pushing the spindle over, and still no action, then it could be that this black rubber wheel has perished.

Try http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/elna-120-sewing-machine-parts.aspx this page, you will see the black tyre item I mean.

Might be something you'd prefer to ask a service technician to do as he could give the machine a good clean and lube at the same time, the older machines will keep going providing you can get spares and they get a good service from time to time.

Bobbin filling

The handwheel may have a pull out/push in action to disengage/engage the clutch, or it may automatically disengage when the bobbin winder is moved to the right for winding........hold a short tail of thread to get it started and you should be away.

Move the winder to the left for sewing, or push handwheel in, according to the mechanism.

Kenmore Sewing Machine model # c877.15

I have a Kenmore as well ,I hope that this will work for you ,too bad that I don't live close to you otherwise I would give a hand. This is the way I fill the bobbin on mine. Mine is located on the top right ,I put the thread into the bobbin hole leaving a small piece of thread hanging for me to hold when I begin the winding, I pull the wheele out to stop the needle from moving while winding, when I am done just push it back in .I run the thread from the spool into the top left it looks like a U turn with a screw go around that without winding just pull it into the bobbin hole. press the foot control and it will begin winding .
