Not heating The wire going to the heating element keeps burning in two when operated on normal heat,

Check the following to address this issue.




1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for tripped circuit breakers or blown fuses. An electric dryer uses two circuit breakers or fuses, and if only one of two is tripped or blown, the dryer might still run but not heat. Sometimes the power cord disconnects or burns at the dryer, if this is the case, the wiring and the terminal block must be repaired or replaced.

2. Heating element
A burned out heating element will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Replace the element if found defective.

3. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.


Concerning the wire issue. this is caused by a faulty wiring harness. replace this wire harness asap.

DRUM TURNING BUT NO HEAT

You have probably lost one leg of your power supply feed 120volts+120volts=240volts,your motor will operate on 120volts, but the element won't,also if you have 240volts the neutral wire to the element can burn off w/heat and age. Or it is possible that the heating element burned out. check the electrical first. Hope this info helps you out! Good luck

If only one heating element goes out will that prevent the oven from heating up? Is it possible for both heating elements to both go out at the same time?

If one element goes out it can affert the operation of the oven. It is very rare to have both element go out at the samne time. This could be a safety thermostat problem or oven control or thermostat problem. It could be a burned wire.

What size wire? When you replaced the heating coil, what did you use? Was it OEM? What part number? Do you have an ohm meter?

Sunbeam 1400w hair dryer doesn't blow out any heat

This is a hair dryer correct? Only two things can be the problem here.
1) a wire is disconnected or broken that provides power to the Heating element. Or 2) the heating Element is burned out. Do to UL regulations these hair dryers are not supposed to be repaired by anyone not having sufficient electrical knowledge or Factory training. A wire or a n Element burns out FOR A REASON, normally excessive heat causes failure of the unit. They are cheap enough to replace without being put out by extreme costs. Do yourself a favor buy a new one.

Check Fault Codes If the display lights are flashing and there is an error code in the display window, check the Error Codes guide on our website to determine which component has failed or is failing

I have a Maytag Electric Dryer model #MDE5500AYW that will not heat up. When I opened the front and looked at the heating element, I noticed that the wire attached to the heating element (a black wire)...

Okay have you replaced the wire with with the correct one? If the wire gauge is wrong it will do every time next you need a volt meter with a buzzer sound maker on it test your thermostat and hi limit thermostat if it makes a noise when testing its working. Only thing that would cause that wire to keep burning are those options and if all checks out okay then its faulty wiring which is grounding out somewhere which is a pain to trace and if you might not find the bad wire had a few of these with these problems and I ended up junking them big fire hazard sorry for the problem.

Half of the heating element has continuity, is it a goner?

The heating element is simply a single strand of resistive wire, so saying "half of it has continuity" makes no sense. If half of it only has continuity then that would mean this area in the middle you are calling half must be burned open and it would be bad. If you are accurately stating what you mean. I would set your meter you are using to do a voltage reading, check and see if you have your voltage at the 2 wires connecting to the heating element. If you have full voltage there and its not heating then your element needs to be replaced. If this dryer has a large plug going to the wall you will read roughly 240 volts AC, there. If it has a normal looking plug going to the wall (not likely) then you should be reading roughly 120 volts AC on those 2 wires connecting to the heating element. If it has a large plug going to the wall and you are only reading 120 volts or less on those 2 wires then your problem is somewhere else.

ONE OFTHE CONTACTS KEEPS BURNING AT ELEMENT

You will have to replace the heat element, because the male terminal is burnt, which causes too much heat at the connection, and causes the wire to burn. If you can clean the terminal to where its shiny it may work otherwise replace the element

Check the outside vent leaving your house does not have a screen on it.
Take the screen off. Even half blocked and the dryer will not dry well.



Possible solutions

1. Defective Heating Element

The heat produced from heating elements is measured in watts and a normal heating element will produce about 4500 watts of heat. If the heat element is shorted to the case, this will cause the heating element to operate on 110v and use only about 1/2 of the element wire. In effect, the heat produced will be only about 1/4 of the amount that should be produced and the end result is an increased drying time.
The normal method for checking a heating element is to check it continuity. With the element unplugged you can check the continuity from one wire post to the next. If the circuit is open, thent he heating element is faulty.
However keep in mind that the element could be shorted to the case as described above. In this situation it is possible to have continuity, but the element still be the source of the problem.

3.Defective Thermostat
The thermostats are responsible for maintaining the proper temperature in the dryer. Check the exhaust temperature of the dyer and if the temperature is above 150 degrees, you will most likely need to change the operating thermostat.

The thermostat can also fail in the opposite mode. It can prevent the element from heating at all. A failed continuity check at room temperature will verify this condition.

There are some special thermostats that are single pole double throw. These thermostats are often used to control the timer when set to the Automatic Dry cycle. If the dryer timer will advance in the Timed Dry cycle but not the Automatic Dry cycle, then the thermostat could be the problem.

4. Defective Gas Valve Coil (Gas Dryer Only)

If the gas dryer will light once but will not relight until it cools down, it is likely the gas valve coils are faulty. These coils loose some strength when subjected to heat. When they become old, the addition of heat may be enough to prevent them from opening the gas valve when hot. However the coils still work when when cool.

An easy way to diagnose the coils when the burner is not lighting, watch the ignitor. If the the ignitor glows for 10 to 15 seconds but no flame is created, then the coils are faulty. If the ignitor is not glowing the problem is elsewhere.

Recent Customer Symptoms:
The dryer burner doesn't always come on when starting. If the burner does come on, once it goes off if won't come on again until the dryer cools down.

One of these will solve the problem!
