I reformatted my Transcend 1TB hard drive as NTFS. It was successfully reformatted but when I try to copy files to it, it runs very slow. A 500kb file takes 1 hour to copy. Please help. Thanks!

SOURCE: files disappear

if you are referring to a usb drive

click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you could see a yellow question / exclamation mark? ! or a red X

you will need to update/reinstall drivers

right click to reinstall drivers

if you can see your usb drive but its not working

ports (com&lpt) right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem

check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems to a computer and its parts

you might have restore it to its defaults

Right click on usb drive select properties you will have an array of options

Select the hardware option then select your drive properties policies

restore defaults

In XP

Right click on your drive select properties then on customize restore Default in W 7

click start control panel administrative tools computer management disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes

automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now start

you might tick one box then return after its finished the first repair then return and tick the second box you should not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage this drive

I found that you get best results by ticking one box then returning after it has finished then tick the other box

click start control panel scroll to folder options view place a tick in show hidden files folders and drives
this may vary depending on your operating system

hope this helps

How to prepare Transcend StoreJet 25M3 for use with Acronis True Image 2014 backup Software ?

The disk size of 698GB under Windows is correct for a 750GB drive.
This tells you there is only one partition on the Transcend drive.
It is best to reformat the Transcend drive to NTFS, unless you need to also read from the Transcend drive using a computer that does not support NTFS.
I would expect Acronis backup inviting you to reformat to NTFS if you would try using a FAT32 drive for backup. FAT32 has a file size limit of 4GB which may impede backups.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to reformat a drive and not lose the data that is stored on it.
I would suggest formatting the drive as NTFS if you are using Windows or HFS if you are using a Mac and then use the software that was included on the drive to backup your computer.
Be sure to copy the software that came ON the external drive to your computer before reformatting. If you are unable to find the software on the drive, you will have to buy the software from Memeo or contact Western Digital for assistance: http://www.memeo.com/choose_backup.php

I AM UNABLE TO SAVE LARGE FILE IN MY TRANSCEND HDD. IGET THE MESSAGE THAT THE FILE IS TOO LARGE. THE FILE I AM TRYING TO SAVE IS MOVIE FILE.

Make sure that the Transcend HDD is formatted using NTFS and not FAT32. FAT32 has a 4G file size limit, and NTFS does not.

Make sure also that you backup any data on the Transcend drive before formatting.

If the Transcend drive is using FAT32, you might also be able to just go to command prompt, and type in:

CONVERT volume( the drive letter of your Transcend drive) /FS:NTFS

You can also get additional help using the CONVERT command by going to a command prompt and typing in:
CONVERT /?

My Book 1Tb will not let me put movies on it

I know exactly what your problem is. You are trying to add a file bigger than 4 GB on a fat32 external hard drive. You simply cant put something that big in there without breaking it into smaller bits. You could easily add a bunch of small files just not huge files bigger than 4GB.
Your solution would be to reformat your WD external drive to a ntfs. That can be done as easy as right clicking your external drive through my computer and highlighting "reformat". Good luck and I hope you dont forget this little thing about computers..sometimes when you get a good deal on pc hardware its for a reason :)
this is good for all hard drives including western digital
