You need to draw the curve y= x^2-4x+ 3. It is a parabola. The equality (=) is verified by all points on the curve. The curve divides the whole plane in two regions. In one region y will be less than x^2-4x+3. In the other regions y will be larger than x^2-4x+3
The regions are the interior of the parabola and its exterior. To find out the region where your inequality is verified you proceed as follow.

  1. Look at the graph and choose the coordinates of one point. Select integer values (BTW the point (0,0) is usually a good candidate) and write y ? x^2-4x+3 where the ? stands for the inequality sign you will have to insert to make the relation correct.
  2. Take x=0, and y=0 and substitute in y ? x^2-4x+3
  3. 0 ? (0^2)-4*(0)+3.
  4. Clearly the ? stands for < because 0 <3.
  5. So at all the points in the region where (0,0) is located the condition y< x^2-4x+3 is TRUE.
In the other region y < x^2-4x+3, is FALSE and that second region (the one that does not contain the origin (0,0) is the one you need to find. It represents your solution set. Note that the origin (0,0) does not lie in the solution set region

How to solve equations with calculator

I'm not sure which calculator you are using, but the website desmos.com can be used as an online calculator. You would enter the two lines and where they intersect, it will tell you the coordinates.

Doing it manually, you could use the elimination or substitution method.

By the elimination method:

x + y = 7 (1)
x + 2y = 11 (2)
------------------
0 - y = -4 subtracting (2) from (1)
y = 4
Substituting into (1) x + 4 = 7

x = 3 After subtracting 4 from both sides

Checking in the second equation
LS RS
3 + 2 (4) 11
3 + 8 11
11 11
LS = RS
QED

Good luck,

How do I sole system of equations

To solve a system of equations, there are two algebraic ways to solve them, one is by substitution, while the other is elimination.

1) 2a + 3b + 5 = 0
2) 2a + 4b + 10 = 0
-----------------------
-b -5 = 0 (subtract 2 from 1)
+b-b-5 = b
-5 = b

Substitute into 1) to solve for a.

2a + 3(-5) + 5 = 0
2a -15 + 5 = 0
2a -10 = 0
2a -10 + 10 = 10
2a = 10
---- ----
2 2

a=5
Substitute into 2) to check if we did it correctly.

2(5) + 4(-5) + 10 = 0
10 -20 + 10 = 0
0=0

Good luck.

8x + 3y = 3 4x + 5y = -23

This is best written as two separate equations:

8x+3y = -23 and 34x+ 5y = -23
Solving the first one for x:
8x = -23-3y
x = -23/8 - 3/8y
Substituting this value for x into the second equation:
34(-23/8 - 3/8y) + 5y = -23
-97.75 - (34)(.375)y + 5y = -23
-97.75 - 12.75y + 5y = -23
-97.75 -7.75y = -23
-7.75y = 97.75-23=74.75
y = -74.75/7.75 = -9.645161
Substitution back into the equation for x:
x = -23/8 - 3/8(-9.645161)
x = -2.875 + 3.616935
x =.741935

A pair of running shoes costs $5.00 more than a pair of regular tennis shoes. The total cost for both is $115 Find the price of the regular tennis shoes

You will never learn any mathematics if you do not solve math problems. I am here to do your homework. I will however help you set the problem up.
1. Define variables (unknowns).
2. Let t be the price of the tennis shoes
3. Let r be the price of running shoes.
Translate the text into mathematical expressions
A pair of running shoes costs 5$ more than a pair of tennis shoes
5 $ more ---> ... +5
Cost of a pair of running shoes (r) = cost of a pair of tennis shoes (t) +5
So the first statement can be expressed as r=t+5

The total cost of both ------> Sum of the costs r+t
The total cost of both is 115 $ ------> r+t=115

Now you have a system of two linear equations in two unknowns
( r=t+5
)
(r+t=115
There are a few methods to solve the system (comparison, substitution, or combination/addition/elimination). I gave the 3 possible names for the third methods.
Choose a method and solve the system to find t and r.
Note: Although all three methods, if carried out correctly, will give you the same solution (t,r), one of them should be preferred. It is worthwhile to recognize immediately which method should be favored depending on the system you are dealing with.

A person walks 25.degree north of east for 3.10 km.How far would she have to walk due north and due east to arrive at the same location?

3.10 km times sine of 25 degrees is about 1.31 km.
3.10 km times cosine of 25 degrees is about 2.81 km.
The person would have to walk 1.31 km north and 2.81 km east.

Since you didn't specify the make and model of your calculator, I'm afraid I can't give you the keystroke sequences to calculate these results.

Fred is 3 years older than his sister mary, in 7 years she will be six-sevenths of his age. how old are they?

Fred = Mary +3
7*mary = 6/7 *Fred
substitute fred =mary + 3
7m = 6/7 * (mary + 3) 7m = 6/7*m + 6/7*3 7m - 6/7*m = 6/7*3 m(7-6/7)= 6/7*3
m = (6/7*3) / (7-6/7) m=0.419 years old
substitue m into fred = mary+3 Fred = 3.419 Years old

Y=7-x x-y=-3

Substitute (7 - X) in for Y in the 2nd equation and you get:

X- (7 - X) = -3 => 2X - 7 = -3 => 2X = 4

Solve this for X and you get X =2.

Plug X = 2 back into the first equation and you get Y = 7 - 2 = 5.

Therefore, the answer is X = 2 and Y = 5

I hope this helps you out.
