the area of your roof is equal to the base (B) times the hight (H) divided by 2.
A = ( B x H )/ 2 = 120
To get the Perimeter of your roof you need to sum the base plus the sides (S)
So P = B + 2 x S


if you have a slope degree of 30 then
B/2 = cos (30) x S
so P = B + 2 x B / 2 / cos(30)
P = B ( 1 + cos (30) )
we also know that
H = tg (30) x B/2
from this last one we can go back to the Area and get a value for B
120 = ( tg (30) x B / 2 x B) / 2
480 x SQRT(3) = B^2
B = SQRT(480/tg(30))

So:
P = SQRT(480/tg(30)) x ( 1 + cos (30))
tg (30) = 1 / SQRT(3) cos (30) = SQRT(3)/2
P = 2 SQRT(30 x (12 + 7 x SQRT(3) ) ) or aproximately 53.8m

Wow, I'm in the exact same situation. I've had my trusty TI for 6 years and now all of a sudden this gibberish is on the screen. You're right, there is absolutely nothing you can do to fix it. Guess we'll have to bite the bullet and buy a new one. 

Use the xth-root function to compute any root. It's the fifth entry on the MATH menu, which you can get by pressing the MATH key. The fourth entry on the same menu gives you the third root without needing the 3 to be specified.

For example, to compute the 5th root of 32, press 5 MATH 5 3 2 ENTER.

here are the steps in changing it from radian to degrees
1. turn on your TI-83 plus
2. press the MODE button near the top of your calculator
3.go down to options and move the highlight from radian to degree, press enter and clear
you're good to go

I get the same answer. Is b wrong? When I do it in Excel I get b= -2E+06, which is -1 797 322.99 rounded to the millions, in scientific notation. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck, Paul

You will have to report faithfully the message returned, you cannot use your interpretation of the message. Error messages are codified. Each one will correspond to very particular error conditions. I did check the manual for all possible error messages and there is none that states wrong info.

My hunch is that there are errors in your data, but I can't say what type of error: I do not have the actual message returned. Verify you data, item by item, and try again.

To make sure that the calculator is well configured to do statistics

1. Press [STAT][5:SetUpEditor][ENTER]
2. Press [2nd][0] (CATALOG) and press [PRGM] (C) to jump to the first command starting with C.
3. Scroll down to [ClrAllListsts] and press [ENTER]
4. Calculator replies Done

Restart your statistical data entry.

You should learn about scientific notation. The two values are the same, just written differently.

If you're talking about your laptop, try to gently remove the button and clean it with a laptop cleaner. spray a bit of it on a small piece of cotton until its damp, not wet, and clean the area, and put the button back on. If it is infact something wrong with the sensor take it to a local computer store. If you're working with a mac, apple should have a solution for you.
