Emerson Research SmartSet Clock Radio

I bought an EmersonReserach SmartSet Clock Radio years ago that would automatically set the time, day, date, and month upon plugging it in. It would also switch automatically for daylight savings time, a feature I just loved!! However, now that congress passed the ruling that daylight savings time is different the clock doesn't change at the right day of the calendar. Now a clock that I never touched to correct the time I am needing to touch touch 4 different times in order to take into account when daylight savings times ends or begins because the clock looks like it doesn't have an mechanism to override the original programmed dates.
Do you know if there is anything I can do to adjust the programming to this clock to take into account the new dates of daylight savings time?? Thx!

I have an Emerson Research clock, Model #CKS 2237, SN 40707887PH. How do you program for daylight saving time in your area? We live in Phoenix AZ and do not have daylight savings here. The dates of daylight savings has changed anyway, but we don't want our clock to change.

My clock didn't change with daylight savings time, and now it changed forward another hour after I already manually set it.  Also, it says it's Monday when it's Tuesday.  I no longer have the user's guide and don't know what time zone I'm in since I moved from New Mexico to Montana nor do I know how to change the day of the week.

After I bought my Emerson clock radio, the dates that we change daylight savings time changed so it no longer does it on the correct weekend. Is it possible to reprogram it so it doesn't do this incorrectly every spring and fall? Now I have to readjust twice in the spring and fall to correct.

I read the first link about how in the 1st sunday, you will need to change your time zone, and manually fix the clock to the hour right? Well I did that, and it wont hit from 2-2:59. At all. If i go down from 3am, it goes to 1:59 and visa versa.

All the time zones programmed into the clock do this. Help?

I have the same problem with my SmartSet Clock Raido Model # CKS2288. It automatically changes to Daylight Savings Time on the first Sunday in April when the rest of the country moves to Daylight Savings on the second Sunday in March. The same problem occurs when we switch back to Standard time. The clock resets itself the last Sunday in October and the rest of the country moves back to Standard Time the first Sunday in November. The clock needs to be reprogrammed or a switch added to manually switch from Daylight Savings Time to Standard Time and back again.

I just got up this morning at 4 A.M. because my smart clock reset the time for me and I didn't notice. I loved this clock when I bought it but now instead of having to change the time twice a year as I used to do. I now have to change it four time. That isn't so smart.

Same problem. Nothing in user manual about changing the pre-set dates for Daylight Savings Time time changes. I called Emerson and they verified that this feature cannot be turned off or changed. Too bad, because we loved the clocks....have 2 of them, but I'm getting tired of preempting their programmed time changes. Now, the FM radio has gone out of one of these clocks. Time for a change (no pun intended)!

I have the same problem. How did you fix the dates for the new daylight saving and standard time?

  • darcydeemer Mar 21, 2009

I have searched the internets and have decided the smartset clock is learning deficient! Emerson Research's website tells you to do exactly what you have been doing. A four part time zone change that shouldn't so irritating. The smart clock is dumb and there is no hope for it. Some models can be adjusted but you'll have to go to ER's website to see if you were lucky enough to buy one of the one's that can, I however was not.

  • Anonymous Apr 05, 2009

I have an emerson SmartSet Clock Radio/Alarm, I know that I have had it since 2005, but what I was wanting to know is how to re-set the pre-sets for the Daylight Savings Time? (I know the model number says CKS1850, but I can't find the serial number) Unless this S/N: 409125286PH is the serial number.

I have had to readjust the times on my clock in my room the last 2 years and I am getting sick of it....Can anyone help me?

Hello fellow Emerson Research consumers! You might not want to hear the answer, but at least you will know what the deal is ...

Before the government changed DST, there was no reason for one to be able to reprogram the DST date on these clocks - so the pre-2007 alarm clocks are hard fixed and cannot be changed or disabled. Go buy a new alarm clock so you don't have to deal with the hassle every year - I missed an important appointment because of it and would much rather have paid $20 for a new alarm clock which I will be doing this week! Better late than never.

After the government changed DST Emerson added a user feature to be able to change the weeks on the newer clock radios which you can find some support for on the web (basically holding the Month/Date button and either the Alarm 1 or 2 buttons, plus pressing + or - to change, but look up the official instructions for your model). If the serial number of your model begins with a 7 or an 8, you can probably reprogram the DST week.

Hope this helped!!

Here's a fix, it may not work on all models and you need to re-do it every time you change the lithium battery.

  • Adjusting the DST Start Date on an Emerson Research Smartset:
    1. Depress & hold the MONTH/DATE and the ALARM1 buttons (at the same time). After 3 seconds the display will show the DST 'start' month, week, and date. It should be alternately showing "4 F" (April and first week week) and "4. 1".
    2. While still holding the MONT/DATE and the ALARM1 buttons, press the DOWN (or "-") button 3 times, until the display is showing "3" (March) and the week as "F2". It should alternately flash "3 F2" and "3. 11".
    3. After this is set, the clock should "automatically" reset itself
  • Adjusting the DST End Date on an Emerson Research Smartset:
    1. Depress & hold the MONTH/DATE and the ALARM2 buttons (at the same time). After 3 seconds the display will show the DST 'end' month, week, and date. It should be alternately showing "10 L" (October and last week week) and "10. 28".
    2. While still holding the MONT/DATE and the ALARM1 buttons, press the UP (or "+") button 1 time, until the display is showing "11" (November) and the week as "F". It should alternately flash "11 F" and "11. 4".
    3. After this is set, the clock should "automatically" reset itself

I guess my Smartset is from October 2000 It doesn't have the Month/Date button. So I am in a pickle with this.

I also have the same problem but came up with a fairly simple solution. I almost never look at the date on the radio, so I just changed the date to 7 days in the past. Now it goes off exactly when I need it and I am never late for church.... I did put a short note over the date display to remind me why it reads wrong... anyway.. other than this, it works just fine...

Emersons official solution is to simply change the time zone setting to the next lower or higher depending on the time of year.  You would have to do this 4 times a year, but it is easier than manually setting the time.

    A

    Anonymous

I bought a clock that was supposed to set itself, and compensate for DST. This meant that I went from a standard clock I'd have to adjust twice a year, to one that I didn't have to change at all. Now, Emerson's fix is for me to manually change it 4 times a year? I think if that's my only option, I'll just go back to a standard one I only have to change twice.

    Thanks for the screwing, Emerson.

I think Emerson should be made to re-program the clocks. They made the promotion that it does what they claim it does.....now it doesn't so they should be responsable to fix it. I didn't buy the clock from the government because they advertised DST features were available....Emerson did that.....so let Emerson fix the problem or we all boycott them....

I am having problems setting the alarms on my Emerson Smart Set clock

Directions for Resetting the Daylight Savings Time (DST) Start & End Dates on the Emerson Research Smartset Dual Alarm Clock Radio (cks5055s):

    • This should work for all Smartsets, but I cannot make the guarantee (and no, I don't have any other directions, sorry)!

One thing to note, if you ever have to change the lithium backup battery for the Smartset clocks, it will revert back to it's factory defaults and you'll have to go through his all over again.

And this conclude's Search Marketing Guru's public service announcement. :) We'll be back with relevant online marketing posts with our next posting!

Daylight Saving Time changes through the year 2097. TheDaylight Saving Time information programmed into
all SmartSet® models was based on the United States Uniform TimeAct of 1966, which formalized theDaylight
Saving Time period that we observe today. CurrentlyDaylight Saving Time begins on the first Sunday in April
and ends on the last Sunday in October.
The new Energy Bill that was signed into law by President Bush in August 2005 includes a provision to
extend Daylight Saving Time. Beginning in 2007 Daylight Saving Time will begin on the second Sunday in
March and end on the first Sunday in November.
Of course this is a situation that is beyond the control of Emerson, or any other company that produces
devices with an automaticDaylight Saving Time adjustment feature. For example most computers, PDA’s, and
many other devices also have automatic DST adjustments. Manufacturers of these devices must now begin to
make adjustments to the automatic DST software to agree with the new DST timing for 2007.
Beginning in 2007 the current automatic DST default settings in this device would no longer be correct. It
would then be necessary for you to manually adjust the TIME ZONE setting 4 times each year as follows:
1.) On the second Sunday in March you would have to set your clock to the next lower number time zone.
For example if you lived in the Eastern Time zone (Zone 02) you would then change your clock to Zone
1 to move it ahead by one hour.
2.) On the first Sunday in April, this clock will automatically advance by one hour. You must then set the
clock back to your correct time zone. For example if you lived in the Eastern Time zone you would set
your clock back to Zone 02.
3.) On the last Sunday in October you would again set your clock to the next lower numbered time zone.
4.) On the first Sunday in November you would again set your clock back to your correct time zone.
Instructions for changing the Time Zone setting are found in the Owner’s Manual.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause due to circumstances that are beyond our control.

There is a solution for this already. You can reprogram the clock to use the new DST settings.

    Emerson Research SmartSet Clock Radio

There was a sheet of paper that came with my clock explaining how to adjust the daylight savings time settings, but I lost it.  Anyone have theirs?  All i know is it requires that you press an awkward combination of buttons simultaneously, but that's it.

    Daylight Savings Times Changed

Directions for Resetting the Daylight Savings Time (DST) Start & End Dates on the Emerson Research Smartset Dual Alarm Clock Radio (cks5055s):
    • This should work for all Smartsets, but I cannot make the guarantee (and no, I don't have any other directions, sorry)!
One thing to note, if you ever have to change the lithium backup battery for the Smartset clocks, it will revert back to it's factory defaults and you'll have to go through his all over again.
