Patient's name: Jenn Air JBR 2088 HES refridgerator
Symptoms: After working fine for about 3 years, the water dispenser inside the door stopped working altogether. Pressing the button generates a faint electric motor noise, but no water comes out.
Troubleshooting so far: Replaced the water filter inside the fridge, but no change. Verified that the water line to the fridge is OK, and has water pressure coming into the back of the fridge. Pulled out the new water filter and verified that it has water inside, so water seems to be getting thru the filter. Ice maker still works, so water is getting to the ice maker. The clear plastic hose that feeds water from the dual water valve on the back of the fridge to the water dispenser had lots of air in it, so I wiggled it for a few minutes, which seemed to purge the air and now that line is full of water with no air pockets that I can see. still no change. Since water coming to the fridge goes thru a dual filter Everpure system before going into the fridge, I am guessing that a plugged up water valve is unlikely. Since I don't have access to a service manual, I am not sure what other devices the water goes thru before coming out the dispenser, so I suspect the problem is with the valve or switch right at the dispenser in the door. Does anyone know how to remove the dispenser platic cover to access the valve/switch behind it? I see no obvious screws, and don't want to break it.
Sorry for the long story, but hoping the detials help. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated as I have been unemployed now for 14 months, so an expensive repair visit that could be avoided by a DIY intervention would be great!
Dear bluntcow: Thanks much for the quick response and great suggestion. It turns out that it was simply frozen water in the resevoir behind the vegetable drawers. I had seen a posting about this problem on side-by-side fridges (mine is a bottom freezer) and thought it did not apply to me, but I was wrong. 10 minutes with a hairdryer to melt the ice in the resevoir and I am all good now. I took out both veggie drawers and took a hairdryer to it for 1 minute then it started working again but pressure was much lower than what I was used to, so I'm still heating/blowdrying it to resolve issue I think that's all it needs. Thanks for the help!

Re: Jenn Air fridge water dispensor stopped working
Hi: You press the switch and it makes a faint humming noise. That tells me the switch on the front panel is ok. The switch for the ice and water is actually on the bottom of the ref. The internal system of the ref is not under city water pressure. Ice is made so that's ok. There is a solenoid where the water attaches to the fridge down below which can fail. Just for giggles try tapping the switch with the plastic handle of a screwdriver. To loosen any scale that might have built up. As I'm unemployed also I'm giving you that trick. Otherwise I would just say replace it. I hope this helps, Jeff

It is your inlet valve. behind the refrigerator where your water line is connected. Most refrigerators the water dispensor will work without the icemaker. If you have no water entering your fridge into your icemaker then it is your inlet valve

i don't know jennair specifically being from england. however, there is often a fan inside the back panel and the noise you heard was the fan hitting ice. the reason now not heard and fridge not working may be that the ice has built up so much the fan is jammed
This is just anecdotal here, but one repair guy who came out and thawed a frozen line into the icemaker told us the fridge required near-full line pressure 90- or 70- or whatever that is, in order for the ice maker to work. This was a licensed repair guy. We were feeding it with an RO, which only pumped it in at 17 or 20 psi (or whatever the unit is) which he informed us was inadequate. However, after he thawed things out and we changed out the inline carbon filter in the fridge, everything was hunky dory for a couple of years. About a year back, the icemaking stopped, and changing out the carbon filters in the fridge AND in the RO system did the trick.
Now we have a different problem. Things aren't getting or staying cold, especially the fridge. I opened the housing in the back of the fridge, defrosted the extensive ice accumulated around the refridgerant coils, and everything ran great for a couple of days. Now we're back in the global warming pattern: steadily rising temperatures and thawing. I'm not feeling too happy about Jenn-Air these days.
you have prime the system air out of the water lines this is easy to do
put a glass big enough to cover water dispensor outlet cause its going to project water out at you press and hold button till water starts to run smooth
these fridges will spit water at you when you prime the system at first cause theres air blockage in lines
each dispensor is a little different, but youll need to hold down a button(perhaps even a combonation of 2) for3 seconds to "reset " the filter indicator.
