reel sensor is the problem of your camera it is a common problem to that model, maybe the pinch roller is loosen to the post cause of the lock of that is been broke..that roller is that one that pulling the tape...only a technician can put it back to the mechanism and replace that lock...in sony service they replace the whole assembly and cost a lots...i suggest find other service center for fixing it...hope that roller is not lost in your camera...

SOURCE: Smacking camera does not work- HDV ZR1U SONY

Look at my most recent post about this, or better yet, go to camerahacker.com to see many possible solutions plus diagrams and actual pictures. You'll have to scroll down about 60 pages or so, ther are over 2,000 complaints about this error code alone on just this one website!
YOu may be missing the roller, the white plastic lock or both. Turn the camera upside down, remove the tape and gently shake it and see if anything comes out.
Re-install per the directions on that website. If not sure what to do and you find the parts, post here again and I'll try to help you. good luck! BOYCOTT SONY!!!!!

SOURCE: My sony handycam digital 8 285E is showing problem C : 31: 22

Well I have not had this happen in my own Sony 340 8 camera, but I have head of it lots of times.
Make sure your tape is re-wound to start, check that the safe tab on rear of take is not pulled over the hole (it prevents writing over stuff you want to keep.

Error Msg - Reinsert the cassette Whenever I.

check if you have the correct type of cassete
in case you have the correct you need to check
the arm-sensor that check if cassete is in

I got the code C:31:22 flashing on the screen. what should i do?

this error pertains to one of the reels (the thing that turns the tape)is malfunctioning.so most likely you'll be having issues w/recording,playing,fast forwarding or rewinding the tape.you can try RESET (press the reset button located inside and beside the eject button in the tape compartment cover, while cam is on).if it doesn't work try POWER RESET (turn cam off, remove the batt, make sure the ac adaptor is not connected.turn power switch to camera or player, and leave w/o power for at least a minute.turn power switch back to off and reinsert batt.check if working).if still you get the error, repair might be needed.hope this helps.thanks:)

Reinsert the cassete

This is for a Dsc-W50 Camera? That would only happen with a camcorder. Have you tried another tape? Sounds like the drive heads are out of alignment

DHR- 1000

Recently repaired one of these with what appeared to be a power supply problem; found several defective capacitors on the drive board. The symptoms were similar to what you are seeing.
