Want to know the steps to reformat Toshiba - Satellite Pro

I have a lot of problem on my laptop.
a. I am not able to access my CDRW drive to write, while I can only read files from it.
b. Every time I use the internet, do a google or click a search, it opens some other unrelated link
c. I have a router set at home, and had to disable the firewall setting

Someone suggested that my Laptop is infected by virus and the only way to solve the problem it to reboot/reformat the machine to that of factory settings. And reinstall Windows XP.
I have recovery disk; but have no idea as to how to use it for reformatting the laptop.

I am also taking backup of all my data onto an external hard drive - will using this data after reformatting, bring back virus onto the laptop.

It would be great if someone could help me with step-by-step procedure of reformatting/rebooting of the laptop.

Hoping for a solution...

Thanks,
Sam

Your data - In order to ensure don't copy any infected data backup as few executables as possible. BEFORE restoring your data make sure you have antivirus installed and up to date. Perform a full scan after copying the data back to your lt. Put in the recovery disk and restart your computer. Look for a prompt on the screen to "boot from disk" while it is booting. Press the key it says to press and follow the directions from there. If there isn't a prompt to boot from disk try pressing Alt and F10 while it boots.

How to unlock toshiba satellite laptop BIOS and HDD

If you are the original owner Toshiba will reset the bios for a fee and it is not cheap, they may include the HDD reset, if not! www.ebay.com type password, or hard drive password. I would check bios password, probably a lot cheaper if you can find the right seller, also check www.download.com some software may be free.

Reformatted hard drive. Loaded Windows XP Pro. Now the laptop will not access the internet

Was the laptop originally with Windows Vista? If it was, then there may not be a driver for windows xp.

If it was preloaded with XP and it's lot loading the right ethernet adapter from the recovery software or it's not working with the right software, then it's a hardware issue.

Try to access the manufacturer's website from another system to see if there is a driver for the particular system. If there isn't, go to driverguide.com and see if you can get one there.

Toshiba satellite a200 not booging, when the power switch is switched on the fan spins for 5 sec and off by itself, and no further booting. The battery charging and power supply DC jack are ok.

The problem is not with the power supply or the power adapter. The problem is the hard drive of the computer itself. The hard drive could be corrupted and needs a reformat.

You have to reformat your hard drive as soon as possible so that you could still save it. The common cause of of corruption is virus.

Problem with reformatting

Unfortunately, there is only one solution and that is to reload your operating system. If you don't already have recovery discs, you can most likely find them here. Good Luck!

Toshiba Will Not Reinstall Windows

where did you get your copy of vista? is it yours did you borrow it?

lets try to reformat one more time. your recovery partition is gone now so make sure you format the entire disk. when it asks you to confirm erasing formatting etc. don't choose the quick format, if it asks. do it the slow way, less chance of error.

let me know

Keyboard problem with Toshiba Satellite Pro 480CDT (running Win98 SE)

I found a BIOS upgrade download for the Toshiba Satellite Pro 480 on Toshiba's website under the archived old models listing. I downloaded it on a different machine and saved it to a USB which I then used to copy to the problem laptop and ran it there.
