SOURCE: NuTone CV353 Central Vac does not start when hose is plugged into
Try to plug the hose in sideways. So the top of the hose is rotated 90 degrees. If the unit turns on then there is something wrong with the hose. It might be a short or it could be a bad switch on the handle. If the unit still wont turn on I would think that maybe the low voltage wire got disconnected from the unit or there is a break in the low voltage wire somewhere along the way. Let me know if you plugging the hose in sideways works.

SOURCE: Nutone CV353 does not shut off, think it is the relay board
You probably have a stuck relay. You can try tapping with medium force next to where the low voltage wires are attached to the unit using the handle end of a hammer. Even if this works it's time to replace the circuit board. Take the unit to a local vacuum repair center for service.

Check the filter. If it's dirty, thoroughly rinse it in cool water, then let it thoroughly dry before using. If you don't have an extra filter to use during this time, you should get one.
It could also be a clogged hose or pipe. These would cause the motor to overheat, thus shutting off. Check hose at end for suction. If weak or nonexistent, detach hose and try dropping a penny or dime, or marble, down the hose. If it comes out the end, the hose is probably clear. If this is the case, you need to check other outlets.

You may have a stuck relay or one of your access port switches may be bad. According to the owners manual: "A complete check of all Wall Inlet and Power Unit low voltage control lead connections (external yellow leads). Turn system off by removing fuse or tripping circuit breaker at
house fuse box."
