Broan-NuTone CV350 Central Vacuum Questions & Answers
Central vac won't turn off unless we unplug
Some units have an on/off switch on the power unit itself. Check to make sure that is not turned on. Unplug your power unit and remove the 2 low voltage wires (not the power cord itself) . The low voltage wires start at the unit and run throught your home and attach to each hose inlet. They are usually attached to the unit by simple wire terminals or wire capped to small wires coming out. Just unlug the terminals or unscrew the wire caps and pull the connections apart. Plug your machine back in. If it still comes on the problem is the relay or circuit board/switch/ relay assembly inside the unit. If it doesn't come on with the low voltage wires unattached then you may have two wires touching somewhere in the low voltage wiring.
Where is the reset switch on the Nutone CV-350
The reset button to the vacuum unit is located on the upper left or right hand side towards the back. There is a small black circle about the size of a dime that has a white tab that pops out. If the tab is sticking out, you can reset the system and trying vacuuming. Typically, the reset button pops for a reason because of an overheating or defective motor. If the reset button is not popped, try turning on the unit from a vacuum inlet and see if you hear a clicking sound at the vacuum unit. If so, this means a new motor is needed. If a clicking sound is not heard, this can mean a bad relay in the unit.

Vacuum won't turn off
This is a common problem i see it weekly. You just need to replace the relay in the tank. have an electrician or vacuum tech do it so its done correctly without causing more problems.
I have a nutone 353
Hi, if the unit keeps running and will not stop, the problem has to be in the on/off switch its self. That is all that could be wrong. The power wires come into the switch, and when you turn it off, the switch cuts the power to the hot side stopping the machine. If the contacts are burned together in the switch, power will continue to go to the motor. I am not sure what wires you separated and it continued to run, but you have to go to the switch where the hot wire connects to it. This is where the problem is. Let me know what you find. Where the hot comes into the switch and with the switch in the off position and its still running, unplug it and cut the hot wire coming out of the switch going to the motor. This will show that the switch is faulty. You may have more then 1 hot wires coming out, so what ever you cut with a pair of cutters from the load side of this switch, (motor side), will stop the unit. You can get another switch at a appliance parts house. Please keep me posted.
Sincerely,

Central vac will not turn off
Base d on your description... you have a defective internal relay, value $25-30US . It sits under the lid beside the motor and has generally 4-6 low and hi voltage leads plugged into it. Sometimes this component and the transformer is replaced by a new circuit board.Tag all wires with # position remove and take to a vacuum pro shop. Original relay may look different from the new one.
Switches will not turn off unit. model #cv450w
If the switches on the hose will not turn off the vac you have a short in the wiring of the vac pipe system or a defective relay on the circuit board. Plug the vac in again without the hose and disconnect the thin low voltage wiring were it plugs into or screws onto the vac.
If the vac continues to run once disconnected from the low voltage circuit you have a defective relay in the vac itself. Some are circuit board mounted , others freestanding. To avoid a service call you can take the tank off the wall and take it to a pro shop or remove the top hosing if you are confident and check out the relay for a replacement part.
If the vac stops your issue is in the house. Has any painting been done or any inlets removed lately.. check that area first for a short at the inlet. Go back to any and all inlets and remove them one at a time checking the mounting screws and backing plates for loose wiring which is touching either the metal inner wall plate in the wall or a common screw . Test the vac as you go.
If this does not help, you will need to examine the wiring in the house , running along the pipe. Again if anything has been disturbed recently, near the vac, or near any piping that would be your first suspect area.
Post back to advise.
Breaker keeps tripping
If you can unplug the central vac and plug it into a different outlet that you know is on a different breaker and test it out to see if it trips the breaker,or temporarily rewire the central vac to a different power supply.Make sure the breaker is the correct amperage for the central vac, last read the instructions to see if you need a dedicated circuit breaker, you might have to many accessories plugged into that outlet.
I have a 4 yr old vx6000c central vac that constantly blows house breaker
This unit requires a 15AMP 120 VOLT dedicated circuit. If there are other appliances or items on this central vacuum circuit, this could overload the circuit causing it to pop. The other issue that could be occurring is that the central vacuum is on a GFI circuit or ARC fault circuit. Central Vacuum Units are not designed to run on these types of electrical circuits.
