Your location is very critical. The receiver must see atleast 3 satellites to give you a good reading. You can't be inside a building, under a wide canope, in a tunnel, under dense folage, or anything else that would block most of the satellites. Get in a open field and try it again.

If your unit is still acquiring satellite, then it means the signal strength is weak, try to get it outside where it can be facing the sky directly so it will be able to acquire satellite. Once you just update your gps receiver, it seems like it is brand new and when it wants to first acquire satellite, it might take longer to do so. But if it has access to the sky directly, it should take about 3 to 5 minutes to acquire.
If your unit is indoor, it may not acquire satellite, even if it is close to the window, it will not, but if it is outside, then it will acquire faster.
Check if you have any protective coating on your windshield or electronic devices which interfere with the unit from receiving signal from the satellite. Try to see if your gps receiver can use an antenna, then connect one to it and your gps will acquire satellite.
Try to reset your gps first before trying any other solution for the unit.
1- Turn off unit. 2- press and hold the bottom right corner of the screen. 3-While still pressing and holding bottom right corner, press and hold power button and continue holding both until a white screen appears with a black dot. 4- follow the on screen directions and your unit will be back to the day you first got it.
If your StreetPilot c300 or c500 series device is no longer acquiring satellites please read the article linked below to ensure that this is not being caused by something in your environment:
If after reading the above article your unit is still having problems, please ensure that your unit's software is up to date. You can do this by using our WebUpdater® program.
If you have tried all of the above suggestions and your unit is still not acquiring satellites, you can perform a master reset by doing the following: Note: A master reset will erase all waypoints or favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings.
Start with the unit powered OFF and unplugged from power.
Touch and hold the bottom right corner of the touchscreen.
Power the unit ON and continue pressing the screen until a new message displays, "Do You Really Want To Erase All User Data?".
Touch Yes and go through the set up again.
Take the unit outside and let it set with a clear view of the sky for 3-5 minutes to acquire satellites. If the unit still does not acquire satellites after this, please contact Garmin Product Support.
Having worked on quite a few of these, your flip-up antenna/GPS receiver may have a problem. There is a part that fails that affects reception and eventually it can lead to full loss of satellite signal.
I have a 3 year old Sportster 2 replay unit that worked perfect until 1 month ago. I posted my problem on this website a day before you did with this same problem. I googled to no end and even spoke to Sirius who wasn't willing to replace my unit at no charge since it was out of warranty. I found an unusual solution on the internet that worked for me. I place my receiver in the freezer for at least 20 minutes (this was recommended by a guy somewhere on the internet with the same problem). I have actually left it in freezer overnight too. This has solved my problem. It is the craziest thing but I thought I would try it before I resorted to replacing all my accessories and receiver since Sirius was less than cooperative with the issue. Anyway, hope this helps.
More than likely when you reinstalled the gps receiver (the board with the wires connected to it) at the top of the receiver you did not position it properly. If it is not positioned properly it will not receive a satellite signal
Make sure you are not moving. This way it can triangulate better. Wait for it to recognize at least 3 satellites. Then cruise as you wish as soon as it is synced with the satellites. Also, be sure that you are on an open field with minimal aerial hindrances.
Your problem is normal to all GPS devices. It does take time to acquire satellite signal.

As GPS units are used, data is gathered which
helps them acquire satellites quickly at the start of each use. If a device is
used daily it should be able to acquire satellites in a minute or less. Using a
GPS device while it is outdoors with a clear view of the entire sky is the
ideal condition for acquiring satellites. Please know that there can be several
different factors that may cause a GPS unit to not acquire satellites:
If your unit is trying
to acquire satellites for the first time, it may take longer than normal
to establish an initial position. If the unit is powered on and outdoors
with a clear view of the sky this should not take more than 3-5 minutes.
If your unit has not
been used for an extended period of time (more then a month), it may take
3-5 minutes to acquire satellites.
If your unit is indoors,
it may not acquire satellites. Even standing next to a window indoors will
block a majority of the sky which is needed for a device to locate and
lock onto a satellite signal.
If you have just
finished updating the software in your unit or you have performed a master
reset, your unit may take 3-5 minutes to acquire while outdoors as the
data that is used to locate satellites may have been erased.
If your unit has
traveled over 500 miles while turned off or not tracking your travel, it
may take 3-5 minutes to acquire even in ideal conditions.
If your vehicle has a
protective coating on its windshield or electronic devices which interfere
with the unit receiving signal, your unit may need an external antenna* in
order to acquire satellites.
If you suspect this to
be an issue, try taking the unit outside of the vehicle with a clear view
of the sky for 3-5 minutes so that the unit can acquire satellites. If
your unit loses satellites once moved back into your vehicle you will
most likely need an external antenna*.
If your unit is still having trouble acquiring
satellites, please ensure that it has the latest version of operating software
by using our WebUpdater program. Once
your unit is updated please allow the unit to acquire satellites outdoors in a
stationary position with a clear view of the sky.
Question: Why won't my StreetPilot i-series device acquire satellites?
Same happened to me - try -->
Answer:
If your StreetPilot i-series unit is having a hard time acquiring satellites we would recommend ensuring that it currently has the most recent version of unit software and then performing a master reset. In order to update your unit to the current version of software you will need to use the Garmin WebUpdater. Here is a link to the page on our website that has the WebUpdater program and instructions on how to use it: http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp
Once your unit has the most up-to-date software, you may need to perform a master reset. To do this follow the steps below:
Start with the device turned off.
Press and hold the arrow button, wheel, and power button simultaneously.
Continue holding these buttons until you see the message, “Do you really want to erase all user data?”
Once this message appears, release all three buttons.
Select ‘Yes’
Note: A master reset will restore your unit to the factory defaults and will erase all of your favorites and recent selections.
Once you have completed these steps, please place your unit outside in an area where it will have a clear view of the sky. The unit may need 15-20 minutes to initially acquire satellites. Once your unit acquire satellites you may continue normal operation.
