A Action Replay is a cheating device that can upload all sorts of cheats. If you wish nto buy a brand new one then go to http://www.codejunkies.com to buy one, on the web site it would help if you become a member but I think you can buy one regardless. they cost around $19.99 americian not including postage. if you do become a member it is free. However a secondhand one you'll have to search the web.
Hope this'll help you. Xamous

When i put in pokemon pearl, my action replay ds freezes up and says start in red but nothing is click-able

I figured it out. I went to the list of all the games it had. Pokemon Pearl wasn't there, but Pokemon Diamond was. I clicked on Diamond and I got to cheat on Pearl!

My action replay code manager is empty and I want to add pokemon

You need to restart your action replay.

to do this follow these steps.

1. hold A and B while turning on your DS.

2. at the Nintendo screen hold start and select.(still holding A and B.)

3. Let go when the screen saying, nintendo dose not''blah blah'' this product.

4. Turn off when you see the action replay title screen.

Once restarted try and add a code.
I had the same problem, but i did the above.

All i know is my son was adding cheat codes for pokemon diamond

Remove all the action-replay enabled cheats and try again. If this doesn't solve the problem, the game has been corrupted, although this is highly unlikely because action replay should not be able to do this. If your son still wants to use cheats, have him use one cheat at a time and gradually add more to find out where the limit is where the game breaks.

Im having problems with action replay!

You should've gotten a cd with the action replay. Connect that with the action replay using the usb that came with it. Then, you should be able to add new games to it and codes for Pkmn Diamond

Action replay problems

action replay is not a licensed product for nintendo. so it is going to do that. this is normal. i myself had to go through 2 ARs to get the third one working. either the code is messing it up, or it is time to et a new one.

My ar ds doesn't work anymore

I suggest you go to the store where you bought the action replay card and ask the Costumer Service for help. They might give you a replace, and if the replace doesn't work, then it just doesn't work for your Pokemon game. My cousin had the same problem. He bought one of those replay cards and tried one of my  Nintendo D.S. games. It didn't work. When he tried it on his games it worked perfectly, and just 2 of my games it didn't work. Hope this helped !!!!  :D  :]
