Element heats, dryer tumbles, no heat in drum, never shuts off

Whirlpool Mod. LER5636JT0.....I put a load in one night and in the morning the dryer was still running. The clothes were still damp. Took the heating element out and turned the dryer on, it heated up. Checked for lint in exhaust....clean. Put dryer back together and no heat and it didn't stop running. Used sensed cycle and timed cycle. No difference.

Hi, If the dryer heats but will not advance in either time or auto cycles, you need to change the timer.
You can test to see if the timer is getting voltage. Remove the top rear panel and locate the two wires going to the timer motor. There should be 120V when the dryer is running in time dry.
Please let me know if this helps or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

No heat , drum turns and wont shut off

Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable.
Hi, On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.)
A common problem is for the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, to burn and break its connection. Because the dryer can still tumble with partial power, the connection may be only partially defective. You may need to replace both the power cord to the dryer and the terminal block inside the dryer that the wire is attached to.

It tumbles - no heat and just keeps going and going

You either have a bad element or thermal fuse. Most likely a thermal fuse. You can access it by removing the back panel. If you find that it's the thermal fuse, you will need to replace the cycling thermostat also. When it goes out, the dryer then cycles off of the thermal fuse until it goes bad.

My dryr tumbles but does not dry

Gas dryer? First thing to check is the ignitor underneath the drum. (You have to open the panel to see it)  It should glow shortly after the dryer starts, then the flame starts and the ignitor shuts off.  If the ignitor is glowing but the gas does not light then the gas valve coils may have to be replaced.  If the gas ignites but does not stay on either the flame sensor or the coils are at fault.

Electric dryer? Temperature sensor has failed or heating element has burned out.
