The graphics card can only support two monitors at a time. One being the notebooks built-in display and the other being either the HDMI or VGA ports. You will have to attempt to disable the notebooks built-in display. Good luck.

Lenovo c355 monitor wont come on at start up

I recommend turning the computer off then double-checking all connections to the monitor. Additionally, if you have another monitor, you could connect it, to see if it works.

How do i switch to external monitor

Virtually all IBM and Lenovo ThinkPad and ThinkCenter laptops allow you to hook up an additional monitor or projector to the computer. When you add an external monitor or projector to your notebook, you can choose to view the display on the computer, on the external device, or on both the laptop and the external monitor or projector at the same time. Toggling between viewing devices is as simple as pressing a couple of keys on the keyboard.

Shut down the laptop. Plug the VGA monitor cable from the external monitor or projector into the blue VGA port on the back of the computer. Turn on the external monitor or projector first, and then the Lenovo laptop. Allow the notebook to boot into Windows normally. Press the "Fn" and "F7" keys at the same time to switch the display from the laptop to the external monitor or projector. Press the "Fn" and "F7" keys again to enable the display on both the laptop and the external display device. Press the "Fn" and "F7" keys again to display screen contents only on the laptop LCD. choose support you need http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-54305.html http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-4YQHUC.html enable tv out on thinkpad http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-58625

T42p display lights for a couple of minutes through startup then goes dark

But fan still runs, and it sounds like the harddrive is spinning?

Diagnose.

Do you have a VGA monitor available?
You can use a CRT type, (Looks like a small TV), or a flat LCD screen monitor if it has a VGA cable.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VGA_connector

1) Laptop OFF, monitor OFF, connect the VGA monitor cable to the left side of the ThinkPad T42. (DisplayPort)

2) Turn the monitor on. If a CRT type allow it to warm up.
Turn the laptop on.

By factory default, the display should show on the external VGA monitor.
If not;

There are at least three display options available;
1) Internal monitor of laptop ONLY
2) Internal monitor of laptop AND external VGA monitor
3) External VGA monitor ONLY.

Press, and hold down on the Fn key, and at the same time tap once on the F7 key. The F7 key is the Display Toggle-Over key.

3) Good display on external monitor?
Problem is the video cable, or inside the Display Assembly.

Since the display goes dark after a couple of minutes, I can tell you the problem is the screen Inverter, or Backlight.
(Inside the Display Assembly)

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is a bad screen Inverter.

Primer:
An LCD screen cannot produce light. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, or a series of LED's.
(Light Emitting Diode)

The Lenovo ThinkPad T42 series of Notebook PC's, uses a single CCFL for a Backlight,

http://www.screentekinc.com/IBM__ThinkPad__T42-series-laptops-lcd-screens.shtml

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp. (Bulb)
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

[Average thickness is 2mm. That is a little larger than 1/16th of an Inch.
Average length is almost as long, as the LCD screen is in height ]

A screen Inverter converts the power from the laptop, for the LCD screen, and Backlight.

(Older versions of backlighting that used a series of LED's, used a screen Inverter. Newer versions do not. For these replace the LCD screen)

A screen Inverter and an LCD screen are a MATCHED unit. Make sure you get the correct screen Inverter, or LCD screen, when buying.

Primer over.

How do I activate the extern RGB monitor output of my laptop?

Need to activate it through settings:
1-click start
2-click control panel
3-click display
4-click settings tab
there you will be able to change your display settings:
you can activate 2 monitors, you can arrange it so two monitors show one desktop, you can have primary/secondary desktop monitors, you can reverse the views etc. Make sure you have your additional monitor turned on/plugged in/connected when you do this so you will know when you get the combination of effects you desire.

Hope this helps!

Lenovo 3ooo c100 notebook

That is either :

Faulty LCD ribbon cable or connector slipping off.

Faulty LCD screen.

Faulty video adapter on laptop motherboard.

To find out you connect laptop to an external monitor.

If the problem persists on external monitor, then you have a faulty video chipset on motherboard.

If the picture is good on external monitor, then problem concerns LCD panel , or LCD cable on laptop.
