Was the disc made by someone or purchased from the store? Some players have a problem with certain dvds that someone made. Maybe your player can't handle the dvd format. Windows Media Player can't read all formats.
When you click Start/My Computer Is your dvd drive listed under my computer? If not, that's the problem.
Your DVD player does not recognize the format that is put into the disc and so does not read.
When it is put into the PC , it might ask for formatting but is not possible when it is a only read disc.
So check the format you have recorded to be acceptable to the player .
your ODD, Optical Disc Driver, have optic component for read your disc. May be your optic broken. Buy new one. Make sure first, you rent some DVD movies, and play to your ODD. And open some softwares, like a PowerDVD.
Your DVD is likely in the wrong format for your DVD player to read. Try downloading the DVDs in another format or convert from DivX to DVD.
